Lyrics

A song about those who left homes in 1941 which I lke the most.
"Remember: we were young boys playing soldiers, and we were the only ones who saw these next door lads marching from the recruting station to the eternity, and only that music is still living with us... for how long we have been missing them!"

...And when the thunder of death came over them,
We had a different destiny -
We, the neighborhood "warriors",
Still too young to be in the lists.

Greyish snowstorms covered their traces,
All sheets were torn from the old calendars,
Years of our lives passed like military trains,
We have been orphaned for so long!

Remember, guys,
Remember, guys,
No words can express it:
The way they stood
At the recruiting office
With their heads shaved forever.

Let's remember them today, every single one,
They paved that terrible road.
Soon we will be the only ones left
Who had heard the first air raid alarm together with them.

…And when the thunder of death came over them
With the pipes of our district orchestra,
We swallowed the sounds
Of rage and anguish,
That at least the music could be resurrected.

Remember, guys,
Remember, guys -
We where the only ones to see them marching
From the recruiting office
With their heads shaved forever.

And when above them came the thunder of death, Pipes District Orchestra,
We swallowed sounds
Rage and anguish,
That at least the music was resurrected.

Remember, guys,
Remember guys -
It's just we have seen with you
As they walked
From the recruiting office
With shaved heads forever.

LYRICS

By Yuri Levitansky, a veteran and a poet.

- Well, I've been there. So what?
It was a long time ago, I forgot everything.
I do not remember days, I do not remember dates,
None of those forced rivers.

- I'm an unidentified soldier
I am a private such-and-such.
I am a missed bullet,
I am the ice of January mixed with blood.
I'm tightly stuck in that ice,
I'm in it like a fly in amber.

- Well, I've been there. So what?
I have passed through it, I forgot everything.
I do not remember dates, I do not remember days,
I can not remember the names.

- I am the clatter of wounded horses,
I am a hoarse shout on the run,
I am the moment of the day which remained unlived,
I am a fight on a distant defence line,
I am the Memorial Flame
And the flame of a candle in the dugout.

- Well, I've been there. So what?
That terrible "to-be-or-not-to-be",
It was a long time ago, I forgot everything.
I almost forgot it all.
I wish I could forget it all.

I take no part in the war -
The war takes part in me.
And the reflection of the Memorial Flame
Trembles on my cheeks.

How can you take me out
Of those years, of that War?
How can you heal me
Being ill of the snows of that winter?
To that land, to that winter
There is no farewell for me,
Untill the snow comes
Which will cover my traces altogether.
Well, I've been there. So what?

Lyrics

Oh, war, what did you do, bastard:
our yards got so quiet
our boys raised their heads
they grew up before their time,
they stood on the threshold for a while,
and they left, one soldier after another...
See you, boys!
Boys, do your best to come back.
No, don’t hide, stay tall,
do not spare any bullets or grenades,
nor spare yourselves, and still…
do your best to come back home.

Oh, war, what did you do, bastard:
tears and smoke instead of weddings.
Our girls gave their white dresses
to their little sisters.
Boots - well, how can it be otherwise?
Green shoulder straps are like wings…
Spite on gossipers, girls,
they will pay for it later.
Let them chatter there is no faith left for you,
Let them say you stagger through the war without knowing your way ...
See you, girls!
Girls, do your best to come back home.

Lyrics

A modern reflection by Vadim Yegorov, dedicated to those boys who finished school in 1941 (statistically, only a few percent survived).

Green grass is taking all over the world,
Clouds are passing by like gorgeous birds,
And that one on the right,
This is me.
This is me.
This is me, and I need no glory
Anymore.
Nothing is wanted, nothing is needed
By me or those besides me.
If we could only live
That would be our best reward.
If we could only live
If we could.
The pale smoke
Over the house where I was born
Is vanishing in the sky.
Mummy, mummy you will hear
My voice,
My voice,
My voice, distant and dimming.
No relief for that pain,
No magic pill.
Why are there wars?
Why?
What are we killed for?
What?
Passing all the tears,
Passing all the smiles,
The clouds are moving over the earth,
Their army never ends,
Their ranks have no gap,
The clouds.
