Saber Strike is the first of what will be an ongoing cooperative training effort between four partner nations and is intended to increase the combat readiness of forces preparing to deploy in support of the ISAF.

The exercise includes a Command Post Exercise, a Field Training Exercise and Situational Training Exercises that are aimed at training the participating countries to operate more effectively together. The tasks trained in this exercise are specifically designed to prepare the troops for operations in Afghanistan and include Improvised Explosive Device defeat training, convoy and patrol operations, and cordon and search operations.

The exercise is not only a training opportunity, but also a sign of the importance of the relationship among the participating nations.

Those are laser sensors for their MILES training gear. You can see them on their web gear as well. The laser unit can be seen atop the front sight of the kneeling soldiers weapon. The laser is activated by the firing of the weapon (blanks) and picked up by the targets sensors, thereby indicating a hit on the targeted soldier. A hit triggers a sound alarm unit worn by the target indicating he is wounded/killed and out of the battle until such time as a referee rearms his system. I have used them many times and think they are an excellent training tool. They also have MILES gear for AFVs, with a lighting system (similar to an emergency vehicle rotating light) that signals a hit.
