UNITY OF COMMAND

Unity of Command has been released this week, see here:

http://unityofcommand.net/

It's a really modern approach to operational-level wargames, with obvious
influences from Panzer General and the like.

It covers the 1942/43 Stalingrad campaign from both the German and
Soviet perspective and includes a quite interesting supply system.

My perspective:

Pro:

- Very nice, clean, functional UI .. I also like the unit representation, especially
since they are not the usual NATO symbols
- Fluid, engaging gameplay
- Good, functional AI .. trying to cut you off from supply wherever possible and
forming good defensive formations
- Ability to play a scenario in one go, no "monster scenarios"
- Good production, no gamestopper bugs or such seen so far

Con:

- Maybe a little bit simplistic and not too many scenarios (hopefully, they
will provide some expansions)

Anyway, I recommend to at least have a closer look at it .. it is really a nice,
very smooth game with a unique twist.

I've been dabbling with Unity of Command, and I did a quick Video AAR of the tutorial scenario, taking the Crimea

But recently I did a 5 turn Video AAR with a bit more depth and detail, taking the Voronezh Scenario. Hopefully you'll get a feel for the game, as it plays out, and you can follow the decisions made turn by turn.

For me, UoC has set a new bar in terms of presentation, UI and AI. With a cool replay facility allowing me to Video Capture the AAR's real easy like.

The guy (ComradeP) who does a much better job of the scenario in the epilogue piece, has been seconded to make new maps for the game when they get their editors in enough shape. So, even though the numbers of scenarios and campaign are quite short, hopefully there'll be some longevity in the extra maps added to the game.

This is a fun little innovative wargame that I think should be expanded and improved on. It is a neat alternative to traditional computer wargame style. Hope to see more content on it in the future.

It is a great game. I'm not a fan of turn-based games, but given the scale of Unity of Command, I think it works. The AI is diabolical - I am hard-pressed to get regular victories, let alone decisive victories in most of the scenarios. Just when I think I am doing well, the AI will find a weak point, breakthrough and wreak havoc behind my lines. The scenarios are, as far as my limited knowledge allows, straight out of history books. The designers have gone to great lengths, and obviously know their stuff. I was very fortunate to be a play-tester for the developers, and highly recommend the game.

2 X 2 has put out a demo of Unity of Command

I highly recommend it for the simple fact it replicates the June 1942 - January 1943 Eastern Front campaigns so meticulously. The actual units are of necessity extremely simplified, but in exchange they have provided a very streamlined, easy to learn game play. The AI is the kicker though. I know I'm a lousy player, but I am still trying to master the so-called easy "Eidelweiss" scenario :heart-borken:

Wow, this is sounding like a pretty great game! I'm gonna have to pick it up sometime soon and give it a shot
