Wow! Would I LOve To Visit This.

The parts of the ship that you tour are in great shape. I highly recommend visiting the Texas if you're in the Houston area. Been there many times, and I enjoy it every time I go. They also have a "Hard Hat Tour" that takes you behind the scenes and lets you see more of the ship than what you would see with just general admission. The San Jacinto battlefield is also right across the street from her. She's also just off the Houston Ship Channel, so you'll see oil tankers and cargo ships going by as well. She's recently having issues with her hull springing leaks, so they've gradually been repairing them. Here's an article in our paper a few months ago that talks about it. She's open again now, though. http://www.chron.com/neighborhood/p...exas-closed-until-further-notice-10608369.php

Been to Patriot's Point in Charleston and walked around CV 10 Yorktown and other ships and subs there, done the Midway in San Diego and the USS Alabama in Mobile back in 1966, when I was a kid. They had just moored it there and there was like a plywood stand at the bottom of railroad tie walkways to get on board where they sold tickets. Now there is all kinds of stuff.

The Lexington (CV-16) is in Corpus Christi.
I have walked it and the Texas. Those stairs didn't look that steep in the movies.

Yeah, on Yorktown they install an escalator, which was not working when I toured. I think the navy installed while ship was on active duty...only CV with one if I remember what docent said...

Yeah, been in USS Clamagore at Patriots Point SC and I have to say that I could not be a submariner. Just too tight for me and I really like the sunshine .
