This version of Lt. Levy at Cauquigny was created for players who found v2b too easy. V2b included two complex A.I. plans that sometimes aborted portions of the plan due to random events. Also the linear A.I. attacking with the historical single company of Grenadiers accompanied by Renault 35 tanks, was too easily beaten by clever players. Both of the foregoing sometimes resulted in the game ending well before time ran out.
V3-SHORT unhistorically increases the number of German grenadier companies to two, starts them closer to Cauquigny and uses a less complex A.I. Plan. The result is a more exciting, challenging game which is more likely to have an historical outcome. Victory points have been allocated in such a manner that it is possible to ‘lose the fight’ but ‘win the scenario’. This reflects Levy’s troopers having inflicted sufficient damage to the German attackers as to have an overall impact on the D-Day camapaign; specifically, to make it more difficult for the Germans to follow up their attack on Cauquigny with an assault on the la Fiere causeway.
Note: The identity of the German Grenadiers has not been updated on the Tactical Map view. This should now read 9., 10. & 12. schwere Kompanien.
