Long Riders ... possibly one of the most violent western shoot outs ever... a whole town vs the Jesse James gang.
They just happen to be from the same western..

One thing Denzel Washington does very well is the deadly-eye look.
It even rivals Clint Eastwood's in my opinion.
Although 'the look' often proceeds ultra-violence, it is usually retribution against extremely nasty creeps.

Something that occurred to me, is that although gun fights in Westerns are thrilling, there are many quiet scenes which portray the time very well.
Many scenes (in movies like Open Range, Unforgiven and Dances with Wolves) capture that big open frontier atmosphere.
