Welcome to The Few Good Men

Thanks for visiting our club and having a look around, there is a lot to see. Why not consider becoming a member?

I don't Think I Could Do That. Really.

Excellent story. I like the little bit at the end "After World War II he was appointed Sergeant-at-Arms for the Canadian House of Commons, meaning that he spent over 17 years of his post-war career as the guy who was single-handedly in charge of keeping the entire government of Canada alive.

I can’t think of a better man for the job."

And the Sergeant at arms in Canadian parliaments have had to do that a few times too. For example when I was in high school I remember when René Marc Jalbert the Sergeant at arms for the Quebec Nation Assembly talked a shooter down after he had already shot multiple people:

And just three years ago Kevin Vickers did literally defend parliamentarians with his personal side arm:

It is embarrassing to acknowledge, but I'd never heard of him before. How could I have missed this!?
He had 158 kills!! All (except 1) against British fighters (none of those inflated Eastern Front kills against crap Russian pilots & planes), IIRC.
Nope, I could not have done this. Really.

He was king of the deflection shot. He had some incredibly low rounds per kill. Find and read the book "Horrido", it details some of the German aces stories, including his.

And I would not denigrate the Eastern Front totals, If you read the book "Red Phoenix Rising" you'll get an idea how the Red Air Force came back and started whipping the Luftwaffe from Kursk on. So The totals are for real, no stat padding there...

Plus in the Wikipedia article it states he had a number of kills against Kittyhawks and Hurricanes, which good but not great fighters like the Spit or the Mustang. P-40's were not the best dogfighters.

My god mTk the Luftwaffe had a sizable number of guys with higher scores than that for Pete's sake! They had two aces over 300, a good number over 200 and many over 158! There's a handy website that lists every ace from every country from every War since WW 1 and it's mind boggling how many German pilots had over 100 kills. I am pretty sure there are 58 over the top allied scorer (Russian)who had 64 plus apparently 4 P-51's by mistake. We got payback in Korea....
