The USA is just one of the great enigma's. On one hand you've got the (mis-)handling of the aftermath of Katrina in New Orleans and Harvey in Houston on the other hand a US carrier group is dispatched to a country after a major disaster (like HaĂŻti a few years ago). And then you can relativley easy buy guns and crazy ammo like above, but if you sell hot coffee you could be liable if it is deemed (by a "well informed" jury) too hot.
A lot seems so contradictionary.

Damn, if You had one of those automatic assault shotguns with a drum full of those rounds, whoa daddy, you could create a local Armageddon in a hurry.

As for the contradiction that is America, well, they just didn't have enough coffee drinkers on that jury. If they had, they would have known lukewarm coffee is the real crime. Plus who the frick puts a hot drink between their legs while driving...cold beer, definitely, hot anything, use the cup holder...

I can see how an outsider might come to that conclusion. The thing is, regarding Harvey, we like to help ourselves more than we like the federal government to babysit us. Witness the armada of private citizens and their boats helping in the rescue efforts.

Not to mention how reasonable is it to be able to expect a coordinated response to a hurricane that has dumped 49"/1.25 m of water (and counting) until after the disaster. You won't move a Marine amphidnTask force in there with hovercraft and helo's during a damn tropical storm. Fact is American's jump up and get 'er done come hell or high water...note private citizens pitching in as per MG's post. And millions of Americans Will donate millions of bucks to help.

OK, but it isn't that strange to have been prepared by building dams and dykes to ptotect the higly populated area's. I can understand that the whole US coastline may be just too long to protect (although in the Netherlands we did a pretty good job, considering the much more smaller economy an population which ultimatley have to pay for it), but Houston is the 4th largest city of the US! This will cost more in the end then building the protection from high waters.

Well, that is not a typically US thing. For example, recently British citizens did the same thing after the terrostist attack in Manchester.

What level of protection do you build for. In US there is the 100 year flood plain, the 500 year flood plain and the 1000 year flood plain. Authorities have said the level of rain exceeds the 1000 year floodplain level. So is the a once in a 5000 year event? Got news for you, build a structure to protect for a 5000 year event and in 5000 years see if that structure is still there, much less capable of protecting the city. If it rained over a meter in four days anywhere you are going to have a mess on your hands, even in the Netherlands.

I do find it funny that he is bragging about the fact that the projectile, which is essentially nothing more than a ~15 inch piece of steel shaped like a missile, *only* costs $25k (the price of a Honda Civic) a shot. That's the government for ya.
