Mechanical watchmakers (those who are left), call these extra features (day of the week, month, moon phase, etc...) "complications", because each feature added more gears to the mechanism.

Apple also calls their little software apps to their apple watch "complications", as if that was in the same league as the difficulty of constructing a clock like in the above picture, or even a Rolex. LOL
