The Bad Boys Return!

Yes! The announcement you all (well, maybe 2-3) have been waiting for.
The Bad Boys will be returning in an XCOM2 sequel soon to save mankind (again) as they take on The Chosen. It will be WAR!
I've DL'd the game and the DLC Tactical Legacy Pack. The DLC looks very good and here's a link to all the stuff it does.

Don't know if I can guarantee I finish this before been-there, done-that sets in, but I am going to give it a go.
* Assuming I can get through that last XCOM2 mission.

Something odd. Started WotC. Several times just to be sure.
It looks like XCOM 2 again, not WotC.
Everything upon start up looks like it should be WotC, but the initial game play looks like a XCOM2 replay.
Advice?
Hmm. Never mind. Pretty sure it is ok now. The first mission started with some soldiers I'd saved from previous game. Just a bit of deja vu.

Did no one else get confused by the start of The Chosen ?
It starts just like the vanilla XCOM2. So much so that after a run through the tute I did a restart thinking something was wrong. Maybe.
So I did a <new game> and was very careful about what boxes I checked. Not sure if that had an effect or not, but it looked slightly different so I kept going.
Besides, I was out of options. I was noticing some differences, but the story line was just the same and no sign of any different bad guys. Somehow I think I may have missed The Chosen intro.
A couple of more missions and I knew I had, clearly, not played them before. But what is it with all the Advent. I do recall having spent many, many hours to get rid of them in XCOM 2, and this is like it never happened?
I just started a new mission to escort representatives of the Reapers and the Skirmishers to a peace conference, and have shot up a bunch of the Lost trying to get there. Seems I am on the right track.
From stuff I just read I may need to just just plow on and things will clarify?
However, do I have to fight the Advent all over again? That may well be where all my disorientation is coming from.
Not sure, but my DLC may have had something to do with...something?
Anyway, Barry got assigned a Sniper roll this time so I took a pic of his cute lil' self with the new photobooth option.

I just finished both Chimera Squad and Gears Tactics. I cant wait for what the future holds for turn based tactics.

Lots of stuff going on.
The "peace " meeting went well, right up until the Chosen Assassin kidnapped the Skirmisher representative. I was kind of getting to like him. However, the Reaper representative liked our style and decided to join XCOM for the near future. She's an awesome sniper. With a name like Dragonov what's not to like?

Having to take the sniper rifle away from Barry. He thought he really wanted it, but after recently missing 5 shots in a row, decided he really preferred something that had a bigger "Boom" to it. Since he was very effective with a rocket launcher previously I took my sniper rifle back and gave him my grenade launcher. Win-Win.

This game mandates rotating soldiers more often than the vanilla version. Besides spending time in the infirmary for wound recovery, now soldiers have to also sit out when they get overly tired (wimps!). That means I'm trying to train up low ranking soldiers early in before the missions get too tough/critical. Say hello: to Ithikial Perth (Red Grenadier) and Olaf Haugen (Green Sniper). Both are o/o action for a week plus due to recent injuries, but at least they've "seen the elephant." And they earned me another engineer in the process.

Interesting mission. Was ordered to go infil an enemy base where Skirmisher Mox was being held prisoner. Stealth is everything so only assigned 3 squad slots.
Sneaked around the whole base. I picked up a mod that specialist have. It s basically a stealth recon drone. Has a large circle camera diameter. In this instance it was invaluable. I was able to locate, and more importantly, avoid guards on patrol.
Of course, the moment I lifted Mox up to carry him out I get massive red lights, sirens and a helo with reinforcements at my position. I've seen this kind of thing before and had prepared my evac carefully.
Only took me one turn to get out and that was too fast for the bad guys.
Mox joined XCOM. Can always use a good Sgt.
"Outrider" (Dragonova) fired the only shot for the only kill and @Nort got his feet wet. Need to get him promoted asap as desperate for another specialist/medic.
Don't they look proud of themselves?

Uh, oh.
First, Mox did not join XCOM. Ungrateful bastid!
I really could have used him now as I have bumped into the "UFO shoots down the Avenger" scenario. This is a lot earlier than my previous play through.
The good news is that I'm allowed 6 squad members. The bad news is that half of them are low ranks. This will be interesting.
Hopefully, what I learned from my first experience will pay off here.

I am soo good. Seems I did learn my lesson.
Instead of playing defense and trying to kill an inexhaustible supply of alien reinforcements I took out the first bunch and then charged to the objective.
Destroyed it and then charged right back to the ship.
Was not without casualties though as 3 of my squad are in the hospital for 7 days +/-. Ouch.
My apologies to Mox. He did join XCOM except not as a Sgt, but as a Squaddie. He was so low on the rank roster I hadn't scrolled down far enough to see his name.
He has some interesting Skirmisher talents that I am looking forward to putting into play.
He just looks like a badass doesn't he?

Uh, oh. It has occurred to me that I may be in trouble
My game start was in So. Africa. Not unreasonable for me to 4x there.
Except. My start has been terribly slow as far as facility construction is concerned. Only have 2 engineers and that is simply inadequate.
I just have not been able to build enough facilities to support my expansion needs. Basic things like more power.
And that means I have been unable to conduct (so far) enough raids to curtail the Chosen expansion plans.
So, going to have to try to redirect where I am going strategically and reduce research costs so they can be redirected into building costs.
Hoping it's not already too late.

I think that was a close call! Advent/Chosen have made serious inroads towards their nefarious project and improving Chosen skills.
However, I'm doing much better as well.
Still waay short on engineers, but have one on the way and I have been able to build facilities that may have saved me.
Specifically, I managed to build the one that allows for an increase in squad size. When that showed up I spent almost all my available resources immediately for a +2 increase, and felt much better for it.
Still having a tough time getting to alien facilities because of my initial inadequacies, but at least now have a plan and I am getting closer.
There are still a couple of new things in this game that I'm still a little unclear on, but that too is improving.
All supplies being held in reserve (for now) for strict use only for infrastructure improvements. Expansion will save me! I think.

Here's @Barry, sober, during a recent PR photo op. He loves that signature, bright yellow, auto cannon.
Nice to have him near me on <overwatch>. He is definitely a starter on any 6-man squad.

Just tried a mission wherein it would help reduce the progress of the Advent/Chosen master plan.
Had to do it as they were getting perilously close to success. If they do that I think it is game over.
One of the aliens had a health bar of 62!! Fail.
OK, managed to move to another location to allow for an attack on a different facility. Intel sez "very difficult."
How much harder could it be? Alien bad guy had am 89 strength bar. FDLMAO.
OK, that's enough for me...for this round. My complete and utter failure, right at the beginning, to provide for adequate production of facilities never allowed for me to have much of a chance right from the start. Going to read up a bit on how I should have done it.
