Welcome to The Few Good Men

Thanks for visiting our club and having a look around, there is a lot to see. Why not consider becoming a member?

UK in or out the EU

Since my Trump thread got the finger wag from Bootie.....isn't this thread also about politics?

Personally, I don't mind discussing politics, as long as everyone keeps a cool head.

Nah so far so good. "Taylor" doesn't need to come out and tell everyone to play nice just yet. Appears pretty civil. :)

Yeah... I think someone said all liberal conservatives or such like must die in the other thread. Thing is despite unwilling to let the FGM become a platform for personal political beliefs a generalised discussion can be allowed but at the first scent of it getting prickly I will kindly ask you guys to move on. Military history and politics are so inextricably linked sometimes its hard to differentiate hence each thread being considered individually.

I'm more interested how you can be both a progressive liberal and conservative at the same time. Stupid communist fascists![emoji14]

Guys,

As a French guy, I have certainly not to tell to GB people what to do. In fact I clearly approve a referendum on this field and would be pleased to let GB stay or leave or whatever.

My beliefs are that among the deficiencies of EU, cause I agree there are, is the excess of national selfishness and the lack of political leadership supporting transformation of an economic association toward a clear political and democratic one. However, It is not personal or exclusive, it would be disonest to forget that GB is one of the country having participated to this situation (this has been its official position for decades).

That said, statements comparing EU to a dictatorship, to Nazi regimen, or stating that UE is the most corrupted organization are unfunded, misleading and absolutely shocking.

Regards
SL

We are a long way from global government, if it ever happens, which I doubt it will barring extraterrestrial threat/intervention. Even the European nations, which are regarded in the U.S.A. these days as mostly socialist, can't seem to agree on much of anything or form any sort of lasting union. Discuss?

Well you're right… [At most cause I still don’t see which EU country may be stated as socialist, we even have a bunch of quasi-fascists states with us now, and I am not sure to see the link between socialism and wishes for more democracy].

However, please do not misunderstand me. The idea I underlined is far from a “global government”. I would like to give some precision

- We have de facto a EU government made by the consensus of the leaders of every and each of the EU states. Since none of these leaders are elected on a program for EU it is perceive as undemocratic (which is not, it is just good old indirect democracy with its inherent alliances and little political arrangements – Give me your approval on Greece, I will support your resolution on milk… ).

- We have a powerless EU parliament, democratically elected but stating only on administrative points.

- The economic association is de facto associated with economic doctrine which is also very politic but yet unchoosen by citizens (I was astonished to see that during the last 8 years the only serious discussion as regard to our economic doctrine was raised by US economists while EU leaders made every efforts to mask disagreements, that's concerning)

- Some of the major crisis faced by EU during the last decades [Migrants, Greece, Should we have appointed a leader of EU bank that has strong conflict of interest with Greece economic situation, attitude toward Ukraine crisis or Syrian Crisis or Lybian ones, attitude toward whistle blower like Assange or Snowden …] should have been resolved by direct consultation of EU citizens or by a real parliament, not by the above mentioned consensus.

I strongly believe that a more direct democracy on global direction of EU can be implemented without loss of authority by its inherent countries. And this would be better than the loss of any EU country regretting this lack of direct democracy.

I hope that this will have clarified my position

Edit:

And sorry to contradict you but THERE IS an ET threat, don't you know? It is by their intervention that we are unable to group together.... (shit their coming for me, I must go)...
