Ok just a little bit more info.

Ive been sizing up Xenforo forums today and they look fine. Easy to modify and a helpful community.

Here is a site built using the Xenforo software. i think it looks good but obviously the FGM's will be a lot different. The software is a lot faster than vbulletin too.

I will have to wait until payday to stump up the cash for the software etc so I will not touch these forums as they are now and then when the time comes I can start importing it across to the new software.

Its a pain and Im not the most skilled person for the job but I try my best... LOL
 
So how are you going to transfer the members and the awards and stuff?
 
The members will be imported via a program. vB4 -> Xenforo.

The awards is a different matter.

I could just screen capture the awards members have and work out implementing them later.

Needless to say there will be changes afoot and we will lose certain things and gain others.

Im hoping the quality of the FGM's posts, camaraderie and tournaments keep the members with us. I can only do my best for the club and Im sure I will be subject to some ridicule at some point over the way the FGM has been run but like Ive said before Im no professional. Im a village idiot trying to fly the space shuttle in relative terms. :)
 
Ok I could not allow a yank (Facmam whom I hold in high regard cough up money seeing he pledges $50 dollars US) I had a brain wave of donating $50 dollars Canadian which I believe is worth more at present then our yankies fiat money LOL:playful: So I go into the donate section and write 50 beside a funny looking 'L' and type in info and hit donate well it worked out $82.55 Canadian LOL I am a dummy
so you have 50L whatever that is? use it well boss ...if after all the dust settles could we get some real good smilies;)
If you need more give me a week or so and I will see what I can do sir.
 
Not to be outdone by my erstwhile Brother from the White Outback, I will change my pledge to match his, 50L it shall be!

I salute you sir. This should put some of Bootie's money worries in to the relief column.
 
Yeah good work guys... I'm currently networking over at Xenforo to get a few guys onside who can assist with the process. They all say the v bulletin transfer is so smooth. Turns out the forums are designed by ex V Bulletin employees who are disillusioned and set up their own software.
 
Now that sounds like my type of company to support. Praying all goes smooth and easy.
 
Guys Im working pretty hard on the new site. IMO we are losing some stuff I'd rather not but we are gaining other things which will benefit us.

Needless to say carry on here for now whilst I work my ass of putting everything together... may be a week or so before we can go live.
 
Well with change there will be a little pain at times. I take it in general we save most things? Are still able to use ladder and tournament sections with the new integration?
 
Im considering just plunging us all in at the deep end.

The thing is..as I work on it new posts are going on this forum so Im always behind.

What I am going to do is say right stop posting .... in an hour we will have new forums and from there I will open the new forums transfer everything across and then start work on them.

There is a lot of stuff we will lose.. awards, user groups, ranks, albums (working on this one) etc but we will not lose any posts, members or post counts.

The way I view is the things we are losing are the niceties. The important things we are retaining is the forum and although I have some issues to work around Im happy it will be a success.
