[FILM] |White Tiger

Yes I have watched the vast majority of it. About a 3.5 out 5 in my book. Photography is good, story is predictable.

@DasTiger & @Seydlitz

Thank you Steve and thanks for the warning, Olaf! ;)

I found the complete film on YouTube! It is in Russian but OK to watch ( I mostly picked the tank scenes only).

Yeah. The tank scenes are about 2.0 out of my 3.5. If I wasn't a military geek it would be a .5 rating. The countryside in the background is also good to see but I find Russian countryside strangely romantic so that is probably just me...

Moin Georg, for free on YT? Thats a taker. Thanks for sharing.

Having looked at the trailer I don't think I am even going to watch for free...

Hi Rich, the scenes with the original old T-34s are OK to watch - even very interesting in my opinion - but the "Tiger" is a real pain. *gg!

I kinda liked this movie. For most of military/war movie buffs the supernatural elements in this movie are propably rather off-putting but I liked the eerie atmosphere it created. I'd still recommend watching this movie for all the tank porn in it.
The Tiger in the movie is an IS-2 modified to look like a Tiger. There are couple of other replicas in the film, a M3 Lee build on BMP chassis and a Pz IV build on T-55 chassis.

Hmn.

Interesting what you guys say and I kind of get your comments, but I think I must be a bit of a purist.

Did anyone else see Al Murray (the pub landlord) on TV last week - he was explaining his WW2 fascination comes from his dad, and in particular he told a story of his dad taking him to see a Bridge too far, and at the point where the tanks come across the bridge, his dad nudged him and said - those are the wrong tanks (leopard's).

As a young boy we grew up with all these great movies with tragic liberties taken - how many pattons or walker buldogs have we seen with crosses on them - too many to mention. I hoped Saving Private Ryan (and the band of brothers spin off) was a new benchmark, and going forward all war movies would have to be his good. Then I saw We Were Warriors Once and Young - a story to rival SPR and realised it wasn't going to happen - such a shame.

Apart from people like us who can identify whats right and wrong in these films, I think filmmakers have a 'duty of care' to educate and inform whilst creating a damn good film, if we aren't careful future generations will continue to believe spin over truth and that is dangerous. Sorry I seem to have gone off on one here -

HA HA HA!!!! "Tank Porn" ... LOL!!! FANTASTIC! :D I LOVE TANK PORN! :p

@Richtig: I fully agree with you - I was a 1:35 modeller when I was young and I always hated it to see the wrong tanks in the movies.
Historcial movies should be accurate in detail (uniforms, material, language and even haircuts! - I hate these 60's/70's heads in a WWII film).

I once saw a documantation about the history of Hollywood (Films and Studios) - and there it was said that the attitiude of the filmmakers mainly
was to "entertain" the people... But with using this mighty medium (the power of the pictures) in a wrong and inaccurate way they caused big damage
to mankind's history and even fudged it. -> all for the profit. (Money).

Cheers Shorker - glad it isn't just me.

I think one of my wake up calls was Oliver Stones JFK and the presentation of conspiracy theory as fact - imagine if this became the accepted 'truth' in times to come...

I actually am coming to hate the media more as I get older. They think they can stand outside and comment, and the comments they make won't hurt anyone - same as these 'whistle blowers' who we seem to almost encourage - bring back the treason laws I say!

Back to the movie refs tho, I don't know if anyone is following the trial of the three royal marines at the moment, but I seem to recall a line from Apocalypse Now - 'accusing someone of murder out here is like trying to hand out speeding tickets at the Indy 5000.' Apologies if me recall isn't 100% I am sure you get the drift.

When we can decide the outcome of conflict by a set number of rock, paper, scissors games or maybe by only hurting the enemies feelings then we will know we have advanced - until then we should make the media remember how many good ordinary people have died through the years to give them the freedom to speak - they shouldn't be helping any enemy kill more...

Damn I don't know what is wrong with me, I start speaking normally and end up ranting at the top of my soap box! Must be an age thing.

@Vartuoosi : LOL!!! I fully agree with you! I just love the expression "tank porn"! :D Was it your "invention"/creation?

@Richtig: Geordie, mate - nothing is wrong with you. I assume that you are suffering from a so called "information burn out / information overload"
in combination with the awareness and feeling that you can't do anything about it -> feeling of shiftlessness/helplessness.

I had that too. The only remedy/countermeasure is to stop watching the "News" and TV in general with it's importunate, aggressive advertising. - This is no joke.

I reduced my TV consumption drastically and I begin to feel better. I have a small TV set right beneath my PC (distance 1 meter) it was running 10 hours a day,
now it's turned on only for 5 to 10 minutes in the morning while I'm drinking my first cup of coffee (but very often it is already switched OFF after 2 minutes).
And in the evening I always used to watch the "News" whith the dinner in the living room - this is history now.

Really - take a break from politics and advertising terror. It is like a holiday for your nerves and brain (and it feels sooo good!

You are a wise man Shorker - I will heed your advice and rant no more...

*gg! ;) Just give it a try, matey - this permanent "inner anger" can cause damage to your internal organs and heart.
I'm enjoying my lack of information and new "stupid" life - it is so relaxing.

The world existed already before I was born (and there have been even two very ugly World Wars) - and it will still exist when I'm dead.

Well, finally got around to watching "White Tiger" this evening. Mostly because there is rarely a case of a WWII movie coming along that I won't watch at least once. Could have made an exception in this case.

Maybe it's Russian film making, but this was one odd movie. Some nice T-34 scenes and that was about it. Skip it. I took one for the team.
