Combat Mission: RISK - TURN 4

Thanks Facman. I wouldn`t say it was pointless as we were quite even with tanks on very open terrain thus favouring the defender. But destroying 2 tanks by air support and my use of artillery smoke missions allowed me to advance to the big hill on my left flank. After reaching that position it was pointless, agreed. :).

My statement was regarding the pointless reason for me playing the game in the first place. Based on this experience, I should have just surrendered rather than waste my time playing a game that was doomed from the start. In the entire game my defenses got off very few shots (not including the infantry) and most of my casualties were due to CAS and Arty. So while we were quite close in armor, the sheer amount of arty and CAS made my even being there pointless. It was a well executed and co-ordinated attack, but very little fun to play due to it's nature. In a world were there is much demand on our time, I put a lot into this game, for a questionable return.

Dear Facman.
I am sorry that playing this game was a waste of time and of a questionable return. I read your statement yesterday and decided to sleep a night over it as it made me somehow mad or better disappointed. Maybe I understand your statement in the wrong way as I am not a native english speaker. But for me it really sound like bad sportsmanship. We are playing this game of CM Risk to have fun and battle over some virtual territories.
First you were mad about us attacking you in the first place. No reason for that as everything was fair and according to the rules.
Then you are mad about you loosing this battle and blaming it just on CAS and Arty. Ok blame it on them. Of course they were very valuable. But this also is part of the Risk campaign. Cope with it and don`t make the gaming experience unpleasant for your opponents. As for me this was a hard earned victory and definitely not a nobrainer to win (Attacker: Defender = 9:7 tanks (including 2 Green tanks not responding to any of my orders/ 3 Inf Plt :4 Inf Plt and clearly defense favouring terrain plus the hard 30 minute time limit) and then getting this kind of statements really is annoying. Please just hit the surrender button the next time. This would save me from your unsportsmanship behaviour.

@Strachwitz
You are taking my statement completely wrong. This was not a personal beef. My issue with the game was not your play, but the design. I certainly understand how difficult your position was, and it was certainly a challenge for you. And as I said earlier, your plan and execution were perfect. My critique was directed at the fact that after spending all that time setting up and playing the turns, the conclusion was forgone due to the amount of support you had. I need not have wasted my time playing. Easily 90% of my casualties in the fight were from the Arty and CAS, not from direct interplay between our ground forces. During the last 4-5 turns, I no longer needed to issue orders to my troops as they were mostly broken and routed. When you rolled over the OBJs, there were only 2 unwounded/uncaptured men left in my OOB. Certainly a sign of a devastating experience, and in my opinion a waste of my time. We have an automatic surrender rule in place, just to avoid pointless battles, my statement recognizes the fact that perhaps that would have been in order here, not that there was anything wrong with your play.
As for my behavior being unsportsmanlike, at no time have I said you did anything improper, nor have I implied you were doing anything wrong, yet your reaction to my statement as being unsportsmanlike is inaccurate/inappropriate in my opinion, and a reflection of your not understanding where I am coming from.

Thanks for your reply. Seems I interpreted your post in the wrong way. Please accept my apology for offending you and calling you unsportsmanlike.

@Strachwitz
Not a problem Mate, as you say, the language barrier is probably in play here. Had you written in Deutsche I might have had the same type of trouble understanding, especially since my Deutsche is not near as good as your English. And no apology is needed as I understand where you are coming from.

eniced73 vs MM just finished up. I was fortunate to come out of it with a DRAW. His defense was stellar and well set up. Had me frustrated to the point that I charged my last two tanks forward to only get taken out in the last minute. Not sure what I was thinking but sometimes this game irks you and you do or say irrational things. Good game MM.

Cheers @eniced73 , very entertaining game and well played :)

Yes. Very well played on your part. Excellent setup on the defense. You had me bashing my keyboard and yelling at my wife. Frustrated the piss out of me. I was lucky to get that Draw. Moving into the OZ in the last minute was shady but I felt that on my left side your forces were pretty thin. You moved them to behind the OZ and had more than what I thought. My right side was not cracking. Your impenetrable fortress of a bunker was taking HE shells from a Panther from 50m away and your men were still dishing out MG fire at my infantry. Fun.

Just catching up on @Facmans post from earlier on... Im in complete agreement with him. I have played 2 battles now where there was absolute zero chance of me even getting a draw never mind a win. They were a complete waste of my time... of which is precious at the minute and I believe the GM needs to step in and award auto victories or the like. I have already made this poiint to @Rico and hopefully he has plans for erradicating unfair battles in future.

Automatic Victory rules are now in force ... but I leave it to the defending player to invoke the automatic surrender or fight the battle.

You fight the battle with what your side brings to the table ... there is also the option for the defender to surrender in mid-battle as well ... I guess, sometimes a battle only becomes apparent as hopeless once the fighting starts.
As I say, at all times you can surrender as defender.

The Battle for Quebec is over. Nathangun surrendered. Canadian Army Total Victory.
Thanks for the game Nathangun. Your men fought bravely.

Btw, I`ve found a solution for the problem that AT-Guns are moving very slowly. Shoot and scoot. Fear us! ;)
