Welcome to The Few Good Men

Thanks for visiting our club and having a look around, there is a lot to see. Why not consider becoming a member?

A new modern campaign?

Thanks for pitching in @fivefivesix!
I think it could very well be useful for Rico's campaign The Borscht Wars. He is going to have quite a bit of variety in terrain.
My campaign however IS this map I'm building. It is 4km square and each battle will be on a 500m x 500m chunk of it.

Of course! I knew there was another CMBS campaign in the works, leave it up to me to mix 'em up. I've been admiring the map you're creating, enjoying seeing your progress.

@Concord I've suddenly recalled a rule from John Tiller wargames where a unit can't move from one to an other hex adjacent to a hex occupied by the enemy. Of course I should have recalled it during the BB Redux discussion but... better too late than never.

This rule makes full encirclement of an enemy unit a very difficult task. And it is very realistic (IMO), at least in opened terrain because (if one hex represent 1 km) any movement of mechanized forces can't be covert and can always be banned by fire. I think that the campaigns where both sides make turns one-by-one need such kind of rules.

Maybe in urban campaign this move can be allowed but should take more MP? Because we can't fire enemy on the next street but covert moves in the city can't be fast.

I remember several rules sets from various board games where it cost extra movement points to move adjacent to and engage a enemy unit.
Dont ask me which ones the 70s and 80s are kinda distant now

Is it a cathedral on the right? Or just water tower with clock? It could be a bus station for the pilgrims. But I need to know is it one of the cities of former USSR or just Eastern Europe. So I might fantasize to which confession they belong.
(Some trash talk in this theme, nothing serious)

It is most definitely a water tower with clock. :p

Speaking of eastern religions, I stumbled across some photos of Russian cathedrals.
Incredible architecture - especially these two in Saint Petersburg. Amazing city.

Had the day off today and delved into some more map making for several hours straight.
Was able to create several zone features. 23 out of 64 are now done, which is more than a third.
I'm pretty damn fast at map building these days.

Such a massive project. At times I still wonder if it is worth the effort. Now that I've started, I want to get it done.
But it is relaxing and kind of fun. Just 2 or 3 hours per week. Got to remember that it is a long term project, not a sprint.

My process is as follows; I come up with an idea for a zone feature.
I do a quick search on the internet for an aerial photo as a rough reference. Easy.
Choose an appropriate spot on the map, and start to build.

The most time consuming aspect is finishing the buildings; roofs and fine tuning windows/doors/walls on the exterior and interior.

Waste Dump
Fairly easy, due to a minimum of buildings. A fair amount of elevation work though.
This is right next to the Power Plant. I'm considering a Waste Water Plant nearby (sewage).
I can only imagine the player comments as it gets blown up. The property values are plummeting in this area.

Shopping Mall
Was a pain in the arse, with all the interior walls, most of which were removed to make it more open inside.

Theatre
Again, arse pain. Removed many interior walls.

Police Station

Derelict Fort
In the zone next to the Military Base.

If anyone has ideas for more zone features, please make suggestions.
I've got more ideas, but input might help.

For now, onto more practical things.
Emails, chores and take the dogs for a long walk. :)

Waaaou, man that great! I'm trying to do map also but compare to your I can see I have a lot to learn!
Continu the good job!

Great work
How many schools are in the area? Elementary, middle and high schools?
Should be fairly easy to knock out a few of those

Only had time for one zone feature this week. 24 out of 64 done. Then it will be time for all the fillers.
This was loosely based on an old paper mill in Belarus.
