Italian ranks: Work in progress

I'm helping Bootie create an Italian rank set and this is what I've come up with so far, but I'm not a uniform/insignia expert, so if anybody can suggest any corrections, go ahead.
Here's how I see it-
The flag had that badge in it until 1946.
The Italian uniform colour was khaki in the desert (like here), and grey in Italy.
I think rank insignias were worn only on shoulder pads (like here), or did they also have stripes sewn onto the upper sleeves like most other armies?

The ranks: 1= highest to 18 (lowest)

Ha ha Louis your 400+ posts will make you a Sergente..:)

Hm... Do we want to take modern Italian ranks? Those aren't WW2 insignia. I'm not yet started with the set because my source (a friend) hasn#t found the time to provide me with a few needed scans. Either we wait a little bit longer or we take modern insignia (which technically we already have - the US variant isn#t really accurate either).

Did the Italians go from major to Brg general. They would have been stoked with no colonels, lol.

The italian rank system is pretty odd, especially because of the so-called "First Captain", but there are others as well. Anyway, I'll show you what I did a while ago for CMMC3 as proper WW2 era insignia:

- Infantry Captain

itinfmaj.gif

- Infantry Major

- Infantry Lieutenant Colonel

- Infantry Colonel

- Generale di Divizione (Major General)

Branch would be denoted by piping color AND branch insignia on the shoulder boards. There were also simplified variants just consisiting of stars with or without borders (as seen above), usually carried on the hats and field caps plus stripes on the lower sleeves for officers, upper sleeves for NCOs and troopers.

There doesn't seem to be a consistent system - sometimes everything was worn, sometimes just the stripes (seems mainly to have been done on field uniforms), sometiems stripes with shoudler boards etc. Just about every combination was possible.

Now those are looking pretty fancy , great job there EoG. I might transfer. lol

Not that much of a problem, actually... a lot have been prepared, but never used. Those above are those that have been finished because they were needed. Question: Would you want different branches or would infantry suffice?

Louis is the member who asked for Italian ranks some time ago, so rather than keep him waiting any longer I stepped in to get the show on the road..;)
If Louis is happy with the ranks I posted in the first post (even though they're modern), that's fine, we're not strictly a WW2-only club anyway.
Or do you prefer WW2 Louis?
And do you prefer a flag without the badge in it?

No problem, whatever he likes more... Was just my impression that we'd rather use WW2 rank insginia than modern ones. Plus, those modern Italian insignia look totally crap.
