1941 ship torpedoed by U-boat is discovered on sea bed

The wreckage of a British cargo ship believed to be carrying up to 240 tons of silver has been discovered in the North Atlantic – 70 years after it was sunk during the Second World War.
SS Gairsoppa was steaming home from India in 1941 while in the service of the Ministry of War Transport when she was torpedoed by a Nazi U-boat.

She sank in icy seas more than three miles deep about 300 miles south west of Ireland. Only one of her 84 crew survived.

I just did some reading about it and found out that it broke off from its 8 knot convoy as it was low on coal. It started for Galway harbour but was circled by a Focke Wulf and then U-101 came and hit it with 1 torpedo.

You know what is the terrible thing about this poor ship it done so many miles round the Cape and I believe it was only 5 Klm from docking

And whoever recovers it is entitled to 80% of the booty!!
