Hmmph! Cricket!! Childs play. And Reynolds barely bats over .200 in the Major Leagues. He is a below average player.
Just joking Y'all. I was a former baseball pitcher and I watched a youtube vid of some Cricket player explaining all the different pitches. Pretty crazy with all the different spins and such. I think my arm would fall off after a couple games. Do these guys have long careers? What kind of rotation do they pitch on? Americans will pitch every fourth or fifth game/day depending.

How fast to Baseball pitchers throw that ball? Top Cricket fast bowlers go above 150 km/hr. No idea what that is in miles. Forget being a pitcher trying batting against it.

I believe the speeds at which they pitch in the 2 games are very close, but that's where the similarities end.
Yep. It is around 93 MPH. That would be about average for ML baseball. Guys that throw over 95 are exceptional. Very few will hit the 100 MPH mark.

Cricket Bowlers (you would call them Pitchers) play every game and there is no rotation. ..
but in Cricket, the bowler (pitchers ) normally bowl the ball so it bounces and deviates at the batsman , at 130 - 150km/hr .. and if you hit the Batsman.. tough sh*$t , no penalty to the fielding team or bowler. And the bowlers are allowed to bowl two balls out of 6 at the Batman's head.. .. so that is why batsmen wear :
- Helmet with metal face guard
- elbow/forearm guards
- padded gloves
- thigh pads
- chest pads (for wimps)
- leg pads
- box or 'cup'

- a mouth guard..

With all that safety equip needed, do kids get to play outside organized leagues?
Here in America, all kids need is a field,a bat, a ball, and a glove. Unless they are city kids, in which case they use a broom handle for a bat, a Pinky Ball (tennis ball without the covering) and play in the streets, with chalk marked bases (it's called Stickball).

haha! you know that is exactly what we wonder about how your kids play American Football ??! .. Organised cricket is everywhere (I run my kids under 12s team) but it is a different world to the test matches. Cricket is played everywhere ; beaches, fields parks. - and all they need is a bat and a ball (no gloves needed) Plastic bats , wooden bats , garbage bins for stumps and always use a tennis ball or similar. yep, an old bald tennis ball or a tennis ball with one have wrapped in electrical tape.. ..

In American baseball pitching rubber to home plate is 60' 6".
Makes a huge difference when throwing a ball 90+ mph.

ok, 60'6'' feet is ... 20.5 yards ? aha ..
yep, I think the baseball distance was taken from cricket (as baseball was invented by an Englishman! ) as the distance between bowling crease (or line) to the batter's crease (line) is actually 17.7metres which appears to be 58 feet. very similar to baseball.. So while the distance between the stumps is 22 yards , the bowler is releasing the ball around 58 feet away... and trying to hit you in the face
now 90mph (!!! miles ) = 144km/h which is what a good fast bowler hits, so again , very similar ...

well, there are two ideas, one is to put the batter 'in his place' and intimidate them plus it forces the batter into a defensive shot and then the ball is hit for a catch. Good players can hook a bouncer to the boundary , but if they get it wrong .ouch !

EXCEPT ... you have to add in the variety of bounce of the ground (very high to very low) ... variety of where the ball bounces (short or right on the batsmen's feet -- known as a Yorker), through in swing, spin, hitting the seam of the ball, any cracks or uneven spots on the crease ... all at speeds varying from 90km/h to 140km/h ... it's amazing they manage to hit anything.
And then there's spin bowling ... another art form in itself
The distance from the pitching mound (rubber) to the plate is 60.5 feet. The pitcher usually releases the ball about 5 feet in front of the mound and the batter usually stands behind the plate a foot or two. So comparing the two distances is very similar. Also the speeds seem to be pretty similar. Now the actual flight path of the cricket ball bouncing off the ground is a totally different flight path then a baseball and actually gives the batter MORE time to focus and hit the ball. I think it pretty much shows we are comparing apples to oranges. After reading this I think the best Cricket players could easily hit a Major League fastball and vise versa with the baseball players hitting a cricket bowler. It would be a matter of time until they got adjusted to the styles and started hitting well. Now the other aspects of the game........[insert your opinion here]
