Battle of Britain 75 – Pt.2 – Commemorative special scheme Eurofighter Typhoon breaks cover

How cool is that?

The Royal Air Force’s commemorative Battle of Britain 75th anniversary special scheme Eurofighter Typhoon has broken cover at RAF Coningsby. Elliott Marsh writes, with images courtesy of Gary Parsons.

The 29(R) Squadron Eurofighter Typhoon (serial ZK349) wears the No. 249 Squadron markings of the Hawker Hurricane flown by Wing Commander Eric James Brindley Nicolson VC DFC, RAF Fighter Command’s only Victoria Cross recipient, during summer 1940. During combat over southern England on 16 August 1940, the then-Flt Lt Nicolson was engaged by a Messerschmitt Bf110 which set his Hurricane ablaze. Despite severe wounds and burns received during this initial attack, Flt Lt Nicolson rallied to critically damage a second Bf110 before bailing from his burning Hurricane.
