Board Game - GMT's "The Battle for Normandy"

Unfortunately not yet but it is definetely in my playing list.
I would suggest to buy the Expansion Pack if you have a chance, it redefines some rules and, listening/reading other players thoughts, it is better than before.

I don't think that reprint will come out this year although...

At the moment I'm totally absorbed by Ardenne '44, a truly gem!

Digging up an old thread but I shelled out for the expansion rules, (complete rules just updated version), counters, maps etc. The main release has to get enough orders before they do a reprint. It's friggin huge. A few nights reading them and it looks detailed but pretty impressive.

The same designer is using the same rules base for an equivalent game for Operation Husky in all it's glory. Sicily hopefully later this year.

Never played it but I heard a lot of positive comments about it, I think Sicily will be another monster game.

Anyhow do you know Grand Tactical Series?
I have played the Market Garden games and they were beautiful, the new title is: Greatest Day (the first of a series).

Yeah seen it but never ventured to pick it up. Unfortunately my wargaming mates locally are more Fantasy focused than historical or counter based wargaming.

That's a pity, I have the same issue and usually I play with VASSAL.

I wish I had time/space to play some board games again ... this is where it all started for me.

Same here. Avalon Hill... many memories. Then the crowd got into miniatures and was fun for ages but we never went back. My dip into CMBO was actually a lone wolf move at the time, no matter how hard I tried I couldn't get the others interested in anything historical.

Was actually thinking a smallish Vassal game of this could be a good 'series' or background thing for FGM chats. @Bootie ?

I've had my eye on this game for years, but unfortunately I really can't justify dropping the coin on it since none of my friends wargame. It would just sit on a shelf gathering dust. Half the fun with board games is playing with other people in person and trading trash talk. Let us know what you think of it when you get a chance to play it.

I bought my first board game in years recently... Twilight Struggle ... not strictly a wargame, but a genius card-based game playing out the Cold War struggle between US and USSR... it's brilliant and not too difficult to learn. It's also on Vassal.
Hoping to face down my first face-to-face opponent once dust settles on current work insanity.:)

Played it: much fun during the first turns, but when the Germans had stabilised their front a battle of attrition (as historically) began and that was not funny to play.

First wargame:
