[CAUTION GRAPHIC IMAGES] Death pics

I'm NOT really sure I understand what's going on here, but do we really need to see these...?

I agree with VR here. As a vet, I know full well that American, and other allied soldiers are losing their lives overseas everyday. What I dont need is visual confirmation of that! War produces very graphic images, some of which I have seen upclose and in person, and only proves how horrific our actions are as human beings killing each other.

(So the next time you watch that T-34 or Panther explode, do you really want to know what happend to its crew?)

Nothing surprises me after having been a cop and I have seen all kinds of deaths .-
So when the thread titled "Death Pics" and warns the user that the content is dramatic .-
Anyone who is willing to see the pictures, you enter the thread and no, skip it .-

At least it helps showing once more how deeply stupid it is to make wars. May be one day they will call for one and nobody will come ? (Although I don't believe it will happen... They will always find people willing to do that for showing they are real men, or for money, or for trying to step out of poverty, or for some crazy lies like weapons of mass destruction...)

PS : Besides being a european socialist, I am also a pacifist since I met Vietnam vets in the US in the 70s, and a tree-hugger... LOL ! I know it's a lot, you can shoot me down ...

No and that's the point. I asked politely to not post vids of American soldiers (or ANY soldier for that matter) getting killed or maimed and it was not only ignored, but I was basically told to shutup and not look at the post if I didnt like it. Well, here are some of my personal pics. Enjoy.

I see. Thanks for clearing that up. Something like a special tag (e.g. "WARNING! GRAPHICAL CONTENT!) might be considered useful for future threads of this particular sort...

Food for thought:- Perhaps if newspapers regularly printed pictures of dead soldiers and civilians killed in wars, it wouldn't be such a bad thing because then everybody would hate war so much that all wars would end?
Remember how in Mark Antony's classic "Lend me your ears" scene in Shakespeare's 'Julius Caesar' the crowd are on the side of the assassins at first, but by the end of the scene Antony had turned them into an enraged mob out to lynch the killers, simply by showing them Caesar's poor dead body?-

Yawn... not exactly shocking to be honest. And VR as for you complaining about not seeing Americans or anyone else getting injured I dont actually recall that.... I dont rememvber the howls of protest and feet stamping over the pictures of Afghans getting blown to pieces?

And as for calling folk here bloodthirsty jerks... can I just point out... your the one who took these pictures.

Who is the bloodthirsty jerk now?

More food for thought:- the current (Feb 2011) total Coalition troop deaths in Afghanistan are 2,258 over the past 10 years which is bad enough, but in that same 10-year period 300,000 people have been killed in traffic accidents on Americas roads.
In other words the troop deaths figure pales into insignificance compared to the road deaths figure which is 130 times higher.
There are sickening road smash pictures and vids all over the net, people without heads, intestines strewn across roads, rivers of blood etc, yet road accidents have become almost an accepted thing and there are no mass protest marches by people demanding an end to the carnage on the roads. It's a funny old world..

What gets me is VR is getting upset about a piece that was shown on French TV and hosted on websites around the globe. He calls us bloodthirsty jerks then posts pictures from his own personal collection of grotesquely maimed individuals which he perhaps took whilst on duty as a memento of his time in the forces. These pictures are not readily available on the web and certainly havent been broadcast on mainstream TV. I feel he has tried to shock us and for us to react in revulsion so he can say 'Now... please dont post pictures of an American standing on a mine'. It obviosuly hasnt worked but I would have appreciated if he had of handled his complaint differently than by trying to outdo the 'gross factor'. I will not be removing this post unless VR wishes it removed. Guys think things through a little before posting nonsense like this in future. I will make no more comments on the subject.

I suppose peoples personal philosophy on life affects the way they regard dead pics.
They don't bother me because all I see are empty dead bodies with nobody home, Jesus summed it up nicely- "Flesh is worthless, only the spirit is important"

I guess one needs to see these kind of pics every now and then to be reminded that war is not Hollywood or Computer Games... sanitising the public discourse and "sheltering" the public from imagery like this just distances people from the reality and makes them send off their young men and women off to military adventures with stupid government-propaganda-fuelled enthusiasm. It might also help develop some empathy and something of an understanding why so many young soldiers come back so scarred., both physically and mentally.

A couple of years ago there was a discussion about area fire in the Armed Assault forum, so I posted a vid there showing US Marines area-firing small arms at a terrorist bus and a hut with the caption "he could run but not hide", showing a dead body.
Next time i visited the forum I got the message "You have been banned for 3 months for posting explicit content".
Ha ha ha..:)

Yeah we're a tough lot..:)
I'm reminded of a scene in 'Tunes of Glory' where commanding officer John Mills blows his brains out in the tub room, and Alec Guinness says to a young officer something like:- "Nay, don't turn away laddie, have ye never seen a dead body before? Go on, look down at him straight without flinching because we're soldiers and death is our stock in trade"..

I believe you also posted it here and no one batted an eyelid.
Batted an eye lid Hell! Thats what I call good shooting!

I not blame the thread of V.R.
After, someone said the death is part of life ....
In fact the site there are many images of soldiers killed .-
I think the warning "CAUTION GRAPHIC IMAGES" is enough to warn about the content of the thread .-

I wouldn't be too hard on Von Reich. He does not want to see any American Servicemen injured or killed because he was one. I am one too, but I realize that unfortunately these things happen. To pretend they don't is to not face reality. I have lost friends in the war and I hate to hear of any US casualties. But I am also happy when I hear of the terrorist and insurgents taking heavy losses. But I understand VRs point of view. It would be similar if one of the officers that Bootie works with is killed or injured in the line of duty. I am sure he wouldn't be too happy to see some criminal post it up on line, but at the same time he wouldn't be bothered to see that criminal get his just rewards.

So although I don't like to see it, I don't think we need to pretend it isn't happening by not posting it. And bring on the videos and pictures of Americas enemies getting smited! The more the merrier!

I understand where VR is coming from. My own brother is in Helmand just now with the 2nd Parachute Regiment and they are losing guys every few days. To pretend it doesnt happen is not facing reality. I was just unhappy with the way he called the wider membership here bloodthirsty jerks for commenting and diuscussing on something that has had worldwide news coverage and then trying to 'even' the score by posting up pictures HE took of grossly maimed people (us, bloodthirsty jerks??) all because the whole forum didnt heed his sole requerst for us not to post such topics and to whitewash them as if they never existed!

Ive said enough and Im not going to fall out with anyone over it and despite having a go at VR it's over in my opinion.
