I am a Colonel in the Syrian Army, and I have been tasked with defending the village of Al-Ardiak from the vicious Dutch Invaders. The village lies on one of our major highways, and the loss of this area will allow the Dutch to use the highway to bypass a large portion of our defenses in order to meet up with US forces further South. Therefore, I must stop the foreign devils here, and turn back their assault. Attached is an aerial view of the battlefield, and where the enemy is most likely to advance from.

In my eyes I can see that the battlefield is split into three main regions. To the Left, the ground is mostly open. The main noticeable features on this flank are the farm to the North, the valley and creek just to the south, a reasonably sized hill about parallel with the village itself, and another small farm up against the highway.

In the center, there is more cover and terrain, dominated by the village itself. The village is just North of the highway, and it is set on a slight rise to the neighboring area. North of the village is a collection of small hills that could provide limited cover to any sort of advance. Past them and slightly to the West is a pair of buildings next to the secondary road the Dutch have been using to get here, and to the South of the buildings is a large clump of trees. Finally, the Northern section of the map has a ridgeline that can cover the Dutch advance and provide a base of fire for them.20210303143332_1.jpg20210303143339_1.jpg

The Eastern third of the battlefield consists of a large area of sparse forest. This forest stretches the majority of the map, and has a large crevice about a third of the way up. When the woods finally stop to the North, a small amount of open ground precedes the ridgeline that extends to the center.20210303143941_1.jpg20210303143949_1.jpg

Now that I have shown you the ground, let me show you the men under my command. As this is a vital junction, I have been given command of an almost full Airborne battalion. Three companies full of the best regular soldiers we can bring to bear and their mortar battery. The attached engineers, after fortifying the village have moved to the rear to work on secondary defensive positions. We also have a full company of T-90's, rushed forth from the interior, along with a company of dismounted Special Forces and a platoon of Shilka AA guns. Brigade has made put all of our AT efforts into this defense, and as such I have 4 extra platoons of AT-14 ATGMs and a platoon of DshK HMGs. All of our men are entrenched and, we are ready for the enemy.

With these forces at my disposal, and three major avenues of approach, I have divided my defense into 3 roughly equal parts. Each company of airborne shall defend an avenue of approach, supported by a platoon of T90's and a platoon of ATGM's. The village itself will have the added defense of the Special Forces company, the HMG's, and the Battalion AT.20210303151025_1.jpg

A company holds the left. First platoon will put up a token resistance in the Northern farm before retreating down into the creek bed. Hopefully they will be able to ambush any forces attempting to ford the creek in a defilade position. If the enemy attempts to throw armor at them, the open ground on either side will give good fields of fire to my tanks and AT The creek itself is sighted with a TRP so that even with this position lost, it will not be a place of respite for the Dutch. Second platoon is holding the copse of trees and the central buildings on the secondary road. They will hold as long as possible, and when their position is overrun, the trees have been pre-sighted with a TRP. Third Platoon is located with the tanks and the company commander, holding the hill as well as some dense scrub.20210303151940_1.jpg20210303152150_1.jpg20210303152230_1.jpg

In the center, my forces have fortified the village as much as practical. I have left the front row of buildings unoccupied save for a number of snipers, in order to limit the Dutch fire support from the ridgeline. I have left one squad to the North as an advanced scout force, and will hide as much as possible until the enemy is on top of them.20210303153031_1.jpg20210303153143_1.jpg20210303153212_1.jpg

The right side, the men of C company hold the forest. sense there is still plenty of open ground, their position is essentially a series of mini-reverse slopes, using the variations in the terrain to try and create as many ambush zones as possible. If their position becomes untenable their orders are to make a stand in the crevasse.20210303153713_1.jpg20210303153743_1.jpg20210303153807_1.jpg

Minutes 1-2

The first minute passes by almost without incident, until the very last seconds, when the snipers in the farmhouse spot a scout team with some sort of FO go towards the crest of the hill on the Northern Ridgeline. I immediately order A company's FO to put a quick, heavy, mortar barrage along that hill. The second minute brings more contacts of light vehicles behind the hill, and a scout team approaching the farm. I give the order to my snipers to open fire on the scouts.20210303154509_1.jpg20210303154935_1.jpg20210303154920_1.jpg

Minute 3

One shot, one kill. My snipers take down the lead man in the scout unit, causing his friends to go to ground, and hide in the low crops. At the same time, the snipers see a YPR APC making it's way towards the Eastern end of the ridge. This is followed closely by a Leopard. I lose visuals on these vehicles almost as soon as I spot them, but I am starting to get some vague ideas as to the enemy before me.20210303155343_1.jpg20210303155718_1.jpg20210303155838_1.jpg

Minute 4

The Sniper relocates to the bottom floor just as a Leopard goes up the ridgeline hill and fires on the second floor. This is soon joined by a second Leopard who approaches the farm itself to lay down covering fire. Although my men are shaken, they are unharmed. The same cannot be said for my men in the town, who have started coming under fire from airburst mortar round. The rounds seem to be attracted to my ATGM's specifically.20210304063904_1.jpg20210304063938_1.jpg20210304063820_1.jpg

Minute 5

My enemy has taken the first armor casualty. One of my T-90's situated in the town spontaneously combusted. The enemy has brought some ATGMs of his own, and I spot the culprit shortly after launch. It is a Gill, and from the spotting contacts around it, it looks like it has friends. knowing that the at of the enemy is concentrated there, I am reversing my tanks that could be spotted by that position out of sight if possible, and calling down mortars on that area. On the left, the enemy has brought forth I'm guessing a regular infantry platoon up to take the farm. My sniper on the ground floor is keeping them at bay for now.20210304122915_1.jpg20210304122923_1.jpg20210304123247_1.jpg20210304123127_1.jpg

Revenge! after the loss of my T-90 a moment ago, my ATGM's showed what they could do when the Leopard on the left pushed forward to take shots at my sniper on the ground level, who had started putting casualties onto the regular Dutch platoon moving up. My sniper and his spotter died, but the Leopard was knocked out by a shot to it's side hull. Corporal Abou Ishaq will be given a posthumous Medal of Valor for his service. The Dutch in the center have also leapt back into their APC's in order to cower from my mortar barrage. Luckily, the same AT14 that took out the Leopard can see the lead vehicle with what appears to be an FO, so we will see if they can get the kill.20210304135816_1.jpg20210304135156_1.jpg20210304135208_1.jpg20210304135642_1.jpg

My attacks have forced the enemy to reevaluate his life decisions. At the farm I see his forces backing up beyond that field, and his OP in the center is on full retreat. No new contacts but unfortunately, the Leopard on the right that I can see cannot be spotted by any of my AT.20210304144850_1.jpg20210304144906_1.jpg
