Combat Mission: Battle for Normandy pre-order announcement

You really think so? If nothing else, people will rather play CMx1 becasue PBEm games can be done faster - it takes time to upload and send a 30MB file...

Plus, it's comparatively different and offers other opportunities than CMx2. I think they'll happily coexist and that CMx1 will never truly die. At least not in the foreseeable future. Theoretically there might come a day on which you won't get CMx1 to run with your new Windumbs OS no matter what you do. Then you'll hear the last bell ring - but not earlier.

I can't see me ever giving up on CMx1. I love the game and as long as I'm able I'll continue to play. However I do hope that CM Normandy lives up to its pre-billing.

I also think it will be another game, and the size of the files ! No reason to stop CMx1 as long as system can run it. For the time being, I am faithful to XP Pro SP3 to run my old games on the home rig...

I've placed my order.
Two actually one for me and one for my brother.

It was a bit expensive but i don't think anyone expected a thirty dollar game.
Perhaps the modules will be more in that range
Wasn't CMAK forty five dollars?

I don't know, I've been playing CM since the Alpha release and if you divide the time I've spent playing CM by the amount of money I've spent purchasing it it's, well, a pretty small price to have paid.

I haven't played any of the other CM2 games and you say the PBEM files are 30MB's?
Yeouch.
I've heard talk somewhere of creating a site that you can upload and download large files to. (Some email providers will not let you email such large files as 30MB's)
Would this be feasible?

Most files are considerably smaller, but for those who want big tank battles, tons of arty flying around and two or three battalions of infantry on the map the file size will be that big or maybe even bigger.

I have a CMSF game in which I got 8 MBTs, half a dozen Bradleys and about a company of infantry on a map about 2x2km big. My enemy maybe has 2/3 of my strength and we're running with file sizes between 10 and 11MB. CMBN though will have much more vegetation and other stuff lying around so you can add a couple MBs to that for the same battle size.

I can tell you it's worth every penny, and you'll probably retire your CMx1 games :RpS_cool:

I doubt that. It's cool, yes, but at the same time so different it's actually another game.

It's got everything you loved from CMx1, and improved it, as well as everything you wanted to add to CMx1, and they've added it. The QB is UNBELIEVABLE, and the amount of little surprises will astound you.

How are the big cats portrayed?
Is it possible to tackle a Tiger with lets say 3 Shermans from a medium distance?
Is the battle damage system in armour working OK?

That may be but I had the game in my hands even before ANY beta tester was allowed onto the forums. Of course there are a lot of "improvements", but the fundamental fact still remains that CMx1 is a wargame and CMx2 is more of a full-blown simulation.

@Cargol: The armor model is much more sophisticated and so are the tactical advantages and disadvantages. Shortcomings (like the PzIV's thin armor) will be even more problematic than they were in Cmx1 and the StuG, too, won't be "über" anymore.
The big cats are still the big cats - you can take on a dozen AI Shermans with a Panther and survive, but you can easily outmaneuver German tanks given sufficient numbers.

Ah well, everyone will have his own opinion anyway. I agree with him that it'll be an awesome game.
