The battle for EDESSA is nearing a conclusion... as the fighting swings over to the Byzantine right, the scattered, ruined remnants of the Sassanid infantry are left behind.
That said, the Byzantine cavalry is pretty much destroyed... but looks like a Byzantine victory.

Ok, this little game seems to be an accurate portrayal of the difficulties the Byzantines encountered.
Some of the best leaders in history have known when to consolidate....Hadrian comes to mind. I will spend the one gold to withdraw the eastern army to Constantinople. The second gold will build a fort in Macedonia.
