Wow, what a total shitshow eh? Extremely courageous soldiers, but a seemingly doomed operation.
I think that you'd have to expect going into combat that it would probably be the end.
Just do what you could, but your chances of coming home would be slim.

The whole reason for the debacle was so British fighter command could engage the Luftwaffe and give them a bloody good spanking.
