@Gnarly ... have started to use washes to help with the detail. (Really good for faces!) My day painting was all enamels, using acrylics has made it fun!

That's been my experience as well when I took up painting miniatures again three years ago. My nephew turned me on to The Army Painter's washes. Their entire paint line is very good.

Wet Palette
Dropped this note for you in here... it really does transform how you paint! (PS I still a lousy painter.)
I have only just started using a wet tray, yesterday. It really does help painting figures greatly. The paints remain moist on the palette so you can touch up painting as you go along, colour remains.

And WRT wet palettes, there are plenty of DIY options out there: no need to purchase a product.
