Homeless Veterans

This picture was taken very near my home last week. It is the picture of the "home" of several veterans. Hard to believe that a country of our means can't take care of those who serve her a little bit better.

That is sad, for those who give so much of themselves, not much is given back when they finish serving.

I find it highly unlikely that those who live in this shack are doing it because they have to. For veterans, there is always help available and my guess is that these veterans wanted to live like this or did not leave the military with a completely honorable discharge.
Here is just one example of things that are available to veterans.

I believe that you live in Conneticut AC. Here is a facility they could have contacted right in your neck of the woods.

My guess is that these guys are probably inelligible due to a less than honorable discharge or just because they chose to live that way. America takes care of its veterans. There may have been a time when we didn't, but that is the past.

Yeah, nobody need be homeless (at least in Britain/USA) unless they've got psychological problems or drink/drug issues that prevent them thinking straight.
8 years ago i was just out of jail (a 3-month vigilante rap), homeless and living rough in a tent in a wood like those guys but I soon got out and up, piece o' cake..:)

One would like to think so yet it wasn't until 2008 that the Department of Veterans Affairs stated the Gulf War Syndrome was in fact a recognized illness and asked Congress to increase funding to continue research into it and aid those afflicted with it.

This current session of Congress is hoping to get to consider a bill that would increase funding for medical costs of first responders with illnesses contracted because of their actions in and around ground zero during the 9/11 attacks. That only took 9 years, so I guess we are improving but hardly a stellar record.

Agreed, there is always room for improvement in legitimate cases.
