2008 was the last time I played a CM1 game. Can’t believe it’s taken me 12 years to get back into Combat Mission. But hey, here I am ready and willing to learn the finer art of CM2 H2H interaction. I now have CMBN 4.02 loaded and have been playing solo, to beef up my skills before I tackle H2H. Been playing wargames off and on since my late teens and let’s say I have a long grey beard now…. Most games are online these days though.

The question I have is, what’s the best way to learn this game?

Read the manual a few times? Watch some tutorials on YouTube? Play the AI solo until you are winning? Find a mentor to teach you or just get into some H2H and learn from your mistakes…. Quickly… :)

Yes, I see. Just finishing the Fauville training campaign. I have been saving but only as I can’t complete the game in one hit. Humans tend to learn from their mistakes, especially if they get a second chance!

Yes, but if you get used to saving and reloading to get you out of trouble from your mistakes, you will develop some bad habits. There's no reloading against a human opponent. Refraining from reloading is surprisingly hard sometimes, but I find it really helps. It's honestly my best advice to anyone who wants to become better at this game. And any wargame I guess. Welcome, by the way.
