Today has been an expensive day for me. Pre-ordered East Front 2, bought the new DLC for Armored Brigade and pre-ordered a game I've been eyeing-Humankind. Its billed as Civilization and then some. Like many I've bee a sucker for Civilization since it first released in the 90's. Still have memories of pounding the table and spilling my beer when the spearman killed my tank. I have all of the games including an unused copy of the original that has floppy disks and a real manual. I've got the collector series and books.

While I like Civ6, I do not like the cartoonist graphics.

The few previews I've seen have me very interested.

Why not just keep your money in your pocket till the games actually come out and you can see if they are worth buying?

That is a valid point. On Steam you have a time period when you can get a refund so if its a dud you can get your money back. War in the East is a different story. In general I'll support a product if I believe in it. Gary Grigsby is a designer I'll support. He usually doesn't put out duds.
