Sounds very complex to me but I think I will give it a try as it really looks awesome to me. Does anyone have multiplayer experience with Paradox games? I wonder how it works. Do you have to play a game in one session or is it possible to save and continue later?

This was a heaping pile of dung at release, but with the recent Marius update its a completely different game. I've been playing hours since the Marius update. Many are now saying they enjoy IR more than CK3 and I agree.

I really like the new military system where you have levies. The tech system has also been revamped. The interface had been changed. It’s a completely new game.

Some have complained that the update ruins playing minor nations. You can no longer “finesse” the game system to grow a minor nation easily. Most players though prefer the new system as its more historically accurate. Nations like Rome, Carthage, Egypt or Greek states were the dominant powers at the time.

Doesn’t mean you can’t play minor nations you just have to adapt to new system. Gather enough gold, wait for the opportune time to make a move and hire mercenaries is one of the suggestions made in forums.

I’m not crazy about ability to build a port anywhere that was added. Other than that I give devs credit for turning IR around.

There are some tweaks that need to be made, but all in all it’s 2 big thumbs up. I got the new Greek DLC but haven’t tried it yet as I’m busy putting the known world under the Roman boot and bleeding everyone dry...

Expecting a flood of DLC for this.

The world as it now stands. Rome has taken control of the Italian continent, Corsica, Sardina and Sicily. The treacherous Carthaginians attacked Rome as she was liberating Lucania. After losing Sardinia, Carthage accepted a generous peace terms put forth by the generous people of Rome. Where will Rome move next to bring forth the glory and grandeur that is Rome?

Roman legions massing at the border with Insurbia. These uncivilized barbarians smell bad and need to be introduced to the concept of bathing. Being a just people we will wait for our diplomats to fabricate a claim as justification for a massive blitz and subjugation of the uncivilized barbarians. The 14,500 man army in the northwest is a standing mercenary army one can hire....for a cost in gold.

Ahhhrome-3.jpg these prima donna families that are power players in Roman society. Always complaining about not holding offices or plotting up some new scheme. When they are granted an office they often prove incompetent or downright disloyal. I could be using the gold keeping them happy for better things like elaborate parties or enlarging my estates!

The world as it now stands. Rome is the most powerful nation by score with Thrace in a close second. Carthage is down on the list at number 9, however if I want to take on Carthage I'll have to build up my Navy as well as invest in naval technology. Right now I have other priorities. The expansion further north has caused considerable war exhaustion and there is the issue of assimilating people/cultures that are dissimilar. That takes, time, gold and research into other areas besides naval warfare tech.

The devs said with the Marius update they wanted IR to be as much a "Civilization" type of game where you have to manage other things besides warfare and it looks like they have succeeded. I'm now focusing on internal affairs, but with an eye on Thrace and Carthage.

As of now many nations will not trade goods my people desire as I'm viewed as too aggressive. Get too aggressive and nations start forming pacts against you and may launch pre-emptive strikes, but so far its just been diplomatic and economic isolation. The proper research into technologies can lessen the effect.

As you can see from the side tab, the heads of prominent families are very satisfied at the moment. This is rare. Deft political maneuvering, success in war and hefty bribes has kept the families happy and content....for now...

The current composition of the senate. This changes as elections are held. As always there is always political maneuvering, favors, events and bribes that influence opinion. If playing an empire besides Rome you'll have a different form of government to manage.

A tab from the commander of one of my legions. You need to keep close tabs on them. They can become disloyal and stop following orders and you won't be able to replace them until you get them back in line. The icon circled in red is the number of cohorts loyal to their commander. You want to keep an eye on this, if the number gets too high it cold become a problem. Use gold to reward them so they no longer hold loyalty to their commander.
