War and mans skill with machines has fascinated me since i was 7 and came across book called
"nazi superweapons of ww2" one of many pulp crap productions for the gullible in 60's.

what was real?
planes like the Arado 'lightning'
"with full bomb load, this aircraft could only reach 668 km/h (415 mph) at altitude., and made it the only bomber with any hope of surviving the massive Allied air forces"
It's true skill being recce in my opinion.
clean it tops 700kph. One overflew normandy beaches in aug'44 and nothing could touch it.

" In most cases, it appears they were never even detected, cruising at about 740 km/h (460 mph) at over 9,100 m (29,900 ft), with the seventh prototype achieving the first-ever wartime reconnaissance mission over the United Kingdom by a Luftwaffe-used jet aircraft."
"The most notable use of the Ar 234 in the bomber role was the attempt to destroy the Ludendorff Bridge at Remagen. Between 7 March, when it was captured by the Allies, and 17 March, when it finally collapsed, the bridge was continually attacked by Ar 234s of III/KG 76 carrying 1,000 kg (2,200 lb) bombs."

Interesting stuff.

edit. specifically the designers initially making a 'dream machine' and forgetting it has to take off and land. no undercarrage. The germans are funny like that. lol engineers 'god help us ' said Jeff Goldblum in jurassic park.

the odds are low..dream on my friend.

the p-51 is after the fw 190 the best machine on planet. skyshows now still have p51 as main.
and for good reason. North american also made the xb 70 valkyrie. THE most beautiful ac ever made.

O on operational ac
the Arrow

The first 10 Do 335 A-0s were delivered for testing in May. By late 1944, the Do 335 A-1 was on the production line. This was similar to the A-0 but with the uprated DB 603 E-1 engines and two underwing hardpoints for additional bombs, drop tanks or guns. It was capable of a maximum speed of 763 km/h (474 mph) at 6,500 m (21,300 ft) with MW 50 boost, or 686 km/h (426 mph) without boost, and able to climb to 8,000 m (26,250 ft) in under 15 minutes. Even with one engine out, it could reach about 563 km/h (350 mph).

Delivery commenced in January 1945. When the United States Army overran the Oberpfaffenhofen factory in late April 1945, only 11 Do 335 A-1 single-seat fighter-bombers and two Do 335 A-12 trainers had been completed.

French ace Pierre Clostermann claimed the first Allied combat encounter with a Pfeil in April 1945. In his book The Big Show (pages 273-274) he describes leading a flight of four Hawker Tempests from No. 3 Squadron RAFover northern Germany, when he intercepted a lone Do 335 flying at maximum speed at treetop level. Detecting the British aircraft, the German pilot reversed course to evade. Despite the Tempest's considerable low altitude speed, the RAF fighters were not able to catch up or even get into firing position

The Smithsonian Air and Space museum in DC has an Arado 234, very very cool machine, I walked around it when it was in the main museum on the mall some years back...It's no longer on the mall, at least it wasn't a couple of years ago when I was in DC on business and had some time to kill, it's out at the Smithsonian annex in Silver Springs, with a lot of other very cool aircraft.

As for the FW 190 stock being better than a P-51, not a chance. Tank's late war FW aircraft, the TA series, yep, they were a very serious handful, but the earlier run of the mill FW's, not even that close Guderian... Even the Japanese had some late war stuff that properly handled could best the P-51 or the P-47N series and was right there in performance, I think maybe the KI-84 Hayate and the J2M Raiden might be two...but he who can build the most planes generally wins and neither Germany nor Japan could field enough of the great aircraft you refer to to even think about slowing down the USAAF, RAF or Red Army Air Forces, who had a good/great aircraft themselves...

I read somewhere once where the Germans built something like 1000 Me 262's, but never had enough fuel to launch more than a 100 on a day at any one time. Can you imagine if they could have sortied 200-800 in a single day and attacked the bomber stream? There is no doubt that German aeronautical science was on the bleeding edge. When you think that the He 280 jet AC flew with jet power before the Battle of Britain, you have to be very glad that Adolf liked to stir the pot and he had a buffoon as air force CinC...

You ever been to the SAC museum in Omaha, NE? They have the B-58 that set the New York to Tokyo speed record..they also have a B-36, what a behemoth that rig is...

i'm Ozzi. no only been thru se asia.
[you lucky bugger]

The SAC museum would be a great place to go. Ah the "aluminium overcast" the b-36.
I'll stick to smaller for now.
atm the Su-47 is of interest.
forward swept is hard but worth the effort combined with vectoring.

SAC museum is wonderful, bu the Evergreen Airlines museum out in Oregon is outstanding...That's where the Spruce Goose is no. I think the name of the town is McMinden. I flew into Portland and was heading to the coast at night, it was dark and I look at my passenger side window and tell my wife and kids..."Oh my god, that's the Spruce Goose".. We stopped in a few days later, what a great museum...
