Howzit All.

Well, how to start this off?

My name is JC von Winterbach shouting my greetings from the dark continent of South Africa. And so, Ive been an avid Historian of WW2 Germany focusing on the Eastern Front considering that some of my family fought for the Germans and some for the South Africans and some considered to valuable to the Government and so blocked from enlisting during WW2. So its easy to see why my hobbies and interests are solely based on WW2.

My Hobbies range from playing CM & Men of War PC Games, Flames of War for Table Top Wargaming (For those that do play Flames of War, you might recognise me as me and my team updated the history and rules for the South Africas for the Late War period and were busy on the Mid War South African info now). I also collect German, Russian & South African Medals & im part of South Africa's Re-Enactment Society and regularly take part in static shows and live shows even thought the Eastern Front isnt protraid allot unless we do an Autumn themed battle but its mostly Afrika Korps seeing as South Africa matches the desert sub-sahara seen.

I also spend allot of time gather books on certain topic of the war as i tend to also spend allot of time researching.

My Favourite Units from Germany, Russia & South Africa is:

Panzergrenadier-Division 'Großdeutschland'
2. SS-Panzer-Division 'Das Reich'
5. SS-Panzer-Division 'Wiking'
116. Panzer-Division 'Windhund'
130. Panzer-Division 'Lehr'
Schwere Panzerabteilungs (All the Tiger I & II Divisions)

2nd Guards Tank Army

1st South African Infantry Division
6th South African Armoured Division

And so, if anyone wants to know more, please feel free to ask.

Greetings and welcome. I play FoW also but I have read your South African article since I'm not that active anymore. I switched to Bolt Action.

Hello JC, welcome to THE FEW GOOD MEN!
Good to have you with us! :)

Joining this community was the right decision because Combat Mission is at it's best when played head to head (H2H)! ;)
But in our download section you will also find a lot of new scenarios to play against the AI.

Enjoy the club and become a part of our community - there are many reliable gaming partners here, plenty of stuff to
check out and good people to meet. :)

Hello and congrats for your military history background :)

I played at FoW too but it was too close a WH/WH40K game style for my taste (rulebook and company policy), anyhow it was several years ago, now is it improved?

Hi Everyone.

Thanx for the welcome. Blind Sniper, the game has improved ALLOT. Version 3 offers more stability and fixes almost everything wrong previously exerienced. It has truely become a pleasure and i agree, it was 40K styled but now contains a more historic feel in every sense. The only problem i sometimes have is that guys tend to overload on tanks that might not have been so widely used in that theatre for example, playing a game in the italian theatre, guys will tend to max out on panthers in their list where as the panthers were a very limited tank in italy. So what we as a gaming group have done, is to design 4 different lists (Infantry with equipment randomly generated, Infantry with equipment you want, Tank with equipment randomly generated, Tank with equipment you want) where you roll a D6: 1-2 Infantry with equipment randomly generated, 3-4 Infantry with equipment you want, 5 Tank with equipment randomly generated & 6 Tank with equipment you want to balance the games because in reality, a General wouldnt always have the equipment he wanted for the specific battle (Almost like the weather), so this gives you more of a realistic feel when you must perform your duty with what ever you have on hand. Sometimes it becomes very difficult but thats reality.

And Thanx Dutch Grenadier, I hope you liked my articles i did, and i hope you liked the induction of the 6th South African Armoured Division into FOW.

And to the rest, Thanx again

Interesting, I'm glad that this game is not dead or too miniatures oriented, maybe...one day...;)

Welcome to the club!

@Dutch Grenadier & all others: I have no experience with that kind of game. Could someone explain it to me? And what means bölt action? And what other kind of sction is there?

Greetings :)

@Sempai
Bolt Action and Flames of War are so called "tabletop wargames". Both are also very populair in Germany.
Google for tabletop wargames and you find your anwser. :)

Thanks Dutch Grenadier, it seems more infantry oriented and usually is a good thing.

@Sempai It is like ASL in 3D but more easy!

Thank You all for the info! Will look into it asap. Thought "Bolt Action" is a playmode of a table top game.

Greetings :)
