About Well over a million dollars for the whole combination.

The Prime Mover (tractor) alone is in the region of half a million once fully kitted out $580,000, obviously Kenworth makes the truck itself but the extras added on would be bullbar (25k), PTO and pump (~50k), Icepack (5k), CTI system (not sure, probably 20-30k), signwriting, MTData and associated electronic systems, internal and external cameras and recording equipment, fridge, microwave, inverter, Starlink. I think that's about it.

The trailers pictured are not new, they're about seven years old and were owned by a previous company that I worked for (can probably find the pics in my older postings), but I can see a quad combination like that would be another half a million, if not more.

Edit: Out of curiosity I went and chased down the price for a top of the line 2024 T909, $580,000 brand new! So I guess my numbers are a bit out of date.

Wow, trucking is not just a job, it's a vocation.

It can be just a job for the basic stuff. Something like dry pan, fridge work, or general freight can be gotten into without too much experience or qualifications needed. It pays... ok and can be good as a backup job if you lose your main job for whatever reason, it'll keep the bills paid and you can usually do it on a casual basis.

I've made it a lifelong career choice because at my age I'd take too much of a pay hit if I went and did anything else, not ideal when trying to support a family. While I do have qualifications in earthmoving machinery, I have no experience in that field at all so that'd be a hard transition to make.

Specialisation is where the money is at though, fuel, chemicals, explosives, oversize, anything that requires more qualifications and/or more experience to get into.
Also for rigs the size of these ones it can take several years of licences (Car > HR > HC > MC)* before you can drive them, also your boss is going to want you to have the prerequisite experience before he hands you the keys.

*(Car > Heavy Rigid > Heavy Combination (semi) > Multi-Combination (B-Double to Road Train))

It's my favourite, Would you believe that 2 months after that was taken she died, of course she hadn't been eating for a few weeks before,

G'day all, it's been a while. I heard through the grapevine that the forums went kaboom so thanks to @Bootie for persevering in getting it all back up and running.
Also figured I'd better log in occasionally so I don't get deleted! o_O

2024 was a pretty busy year, still fuel hauling and working about a squillion hours a week. Not much time for CM or other games, but nice for the mortgage and definitely keeping the tax man happy.

One of the newest rigs, still shiny now but the harsh roads and conditions will take their toll soon enough. All the new trucks have Starlink mounted on them meaning even way outback I still have perfect high speed broadband for streaming music and podcasts, really 'doing it tough!' :ROFLMAO:

I don't actually have any CM games installed at the moment as my main hard drive bricked itself mid last year, and since I don't have the time or, to be honest, the inclination to play CM just at the moment they'll remain uninstalled for the forseeable future. In the very small amount of free time I have free, the two 'WoWs' are filling the gaps, World of Warcraft, and World of Warships, given that I can play for 20 minutes and leave pretty much immediately if duty calls. I don't want to have the obligation of trying to keep up with turns when there are plenty of more important things to occupy my time, speaking of which:

New wife, new life!

The better half brought a little one into the world on 22/11/2024, well I say little - he was 3.8kgs! (8.3 lbs in freedom units).
We are blessed that we are living in the age of modern medicine, where if babies are too big to be born naturally, the mother won't die in childbirth as would have happened a few hundred years ago. In this case the baby was big, and mum is... not, so C-section it was and all went well.
He's growing incredibly quickly, not even two months old and he's passing babies in the three and four month weight bracket!
This is why dad has to work so hard, that boy is eating me out of house and home, but I wouldn't have it any other way!

Congrats with your son and wife! :)

I'm also dropping by occasionally, no CM atm. The itch is slowly coming back, now just find the time! Who knows what CM3 times will bring :)

Impressive truck you are driving there, not sure if you could even turn that inside NL, without having a tire on Belgium ;-)
