Anybody out there play this? Im playing the Italian Campaign right now and finding it very tough (difficulty setting medium) now I recognize I am no Napoleon, but I seem to be missing something other than sheer military genius. Im particularly curious as to how one incorporates Gentlemen & Spies in the game.

No. I'm playing Rome Total War though (right now).

Gentlemen are you researchers, and place them in the schools, or have them enter hostile countries schools and try to steal them research secrets, or use them to kill the other guy's gentlemen in duels.
Spies are real kool, I like using them to kill the other side generals.
As for the Italian Campaign, you cant fight your way though all those minor countries, try forming alliances with some of them or get short term military access. remember to keep your eye on the prize, that fortress city in the NE corner of the map. Cant think of its name a the moment, sorry.
Also try to fight all your battles tactical if you can, increases you chances for victory.

In RTW it is really hard to kill enemy generals with your assasins. They need to be really highgrade assassins or you need a lot of luck to pull it of.

Thanks LH & BB. I have yet to see a spy or Gentleman arrive in the Italian Campaign. What do I do to get them?

I play Medieval Total war...I love Napoleonic time period...is it a good game?

Would like to know before buying it. Is it accurate in it's scope?

Since I got N-TW, Empire-TW doesn't see the light of day. It is a graphically beautiful game, as the uniforms are appropriate and the feel is very Napoleonic. Having played Napoleonic miniatures for years, this is so much sweeter. Now I haven't had the opportunity to play vs a human, so I suspect I am barely scratching the surface. I don't regret buying it, except for the fact one must deal with Steam in the first instance. I rarely play online as the server fails far too frequently for my taste. If you get it, let me know and we can dink around online a bit.

The TW games can be very addictive indeed!
I read that just after the release of TW Empire people were dissapointed. Don't know about what exactly. A lot of the buyers went "back" to RTW and TWM II.

Appearently the flaws in TW Empire were fixed?

You don't get them in the Italian campaign. This is a "tutorial" simplified campaign with no tech trees... The difficulty comes from the fact you have a limited time to kick out the Austrians from Italy. It must be run as a "Blitzkrieg".

Try the Darth Mod for empire TW...it improve already good game to awesome. Plus there dozens of other mods out there for TW
Enjoy

Agreed ! I bought Empire TW not long ago just because I knew of Darth Mod. (And it was very cheap incluging Warpath campaign)
I play the TW series with mods only.
- Rome Total War : Rome Total Realism Platinum 1.9 and another install with Europa Barbarorum
- Medieval 2 : Stainless Steel 6.4 (also Lord of the Rings total conversion : Third Age TW)
- Empire TW : Dath Mod Ultimate Commander
- Napoleon TW : Toon's All in One mod
- Shogun 2 : Darth Mod + Toon's All in One mod

Rome Total War with mod Roma Surrectum II. Makes for a totally different game.

I am big fun of Total War since first Shogun and now I wait to have a little spare time to play Shogun II :) all previous games are just great !

Corsaire31-

Do your RTW mods work with the "Barbarians" expansion? Many of the RTW mods do not seem to work if you've added the expansion.

Thanks,

That is not the case with the Roma Surrectum II mod. You can choose to play/install it either in BI or R. It is of course still a game played with the factions the mod has. So no Saxons, Franks, West-Romans etc.
And you install it as a different RTW game. So I have RTW, RTW-BI and RSII installed. And I can play all three games.

BTw, there are special BI mods around also.

Are there any turn based mods out there? I dislike RT games as my reactions have slowed considerably in my dotage.

One way to remedy that: use the PAUSE key a lot!! I do.

Unfortunately, I think you're out of luck for "NEW" wargames. Turn Based is nearly completely dead. If you like Fantasy then King's Bounty Crossworlds is an AWESOME game.

....but that's about it. :( I LOVE turn based myself.....
