Soviet T-34 and T-60 tanks lie knocked out and abandoned on 20 Years Of October Street, Voronezh, Soviet Union, in the autumn of 1942. This is the same spot.

I think you nailed it, although how is beyond me. In the original photo one of the only buildings left standing has a distinct vertical 4-window look. And there it is again in the modern photo some distance down the street. Amazing.
