and you decide to go for a hike to get some fresh air and get away from the city. It's been driving you crazy recently. You grab some water and your pack and jump in your truck. You drive for a couple of hours northeast on the interstate, and then you leave that well traveled road for dirt roads and adventure. You finally spot a place that looks like a good area to hike, and you jump out of your truck, grab your gear, and set off.
After hiking around for about an hour or so, you decide to take a water break and figure out where you are. The GPS you brought along is telling you you're at 35° 3'47.57"N 117° 1'25.89"W. "I've made some good time," you think to yourself as you see how far you've hiked from your truck. You take a nice long drink of cold water, and as you're putting the cap back on the bottle, you notice something on the ground catching the sunlight. You kneel down and pick the object up. "Huh, that's interesting," you think. You start taking a more careful look at the ground around you, and start finding other bits and pieces. After gathering a handful, you spread them out in your hand to take a closer look:
"I wonder what these are for," you mutter to yourself. Not wanting to lose anymore time, you put the pieces in your pack and continue on your way. A short distance later, you nearly stumble over a chunk of metal:
Ever inquisitive, you pick the piece up and put it in your bag. You resume your hike, and turn towards the northwest. You find yourself immensely enjoying your time outdoors, taking in the views, watching for wildlife, etc. After hiking for a couple miles, you start climbing up a hill. As you're looking down at the ground to watch your footing, you notice some more odd pieces scattered about. You gather up a few to take a look:
"This is too strange," you think. You take out your GPS and note your location: 35° 4'41.32"N 117° 3'20.13"W. After depositing these new found objects in your pack, you start walking again only to find these some distance later:
With your curiosity regarding the items you've found getting the better of you, you decide to head back to your truck and drive back home to see if you can figure the mystery out. Once you arrive home, you throw your pack on the floor and take out all of the pieces you found. You neatly arrange them on your desk and begin researching the answer to your burning questions: "What happened in the area I was hiking? What do the pieces and parts belong to?"
