Aaahhh, NEUBAU-FHZ got it! Congratulations! Harry Thürk is right. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harry_Thuerk Sadly the english Wiki article about him is a bit short and diverse from the german one. In the english article it is said his work was printed 9 millions times in 9 million languages. The german says likewise only exception it states it were 13 languages his work was printed in. Thürk was in 4 wars and was sprayed with Agent Orange what until now is denied by the USA.

His most famous work in the former GDR was "Die Stunde der toten Augen" (The Hour of the dead Eyes"). Former special branches employees and paratroopers told me that was the inofficial bible of the east german paratroopers. I don´t know how it was meant but suppose it was meant it was a must to read it. I have read it and have to say it is a great work. What is most intriguing is how Thürk describes the desperation and fatalism between the paratroopers. Also how strong the camaraderie - the close links with one another - between the Paras is. It went as far that orders are ignored. Not deliberately but because there die brothers and friends. I remember the part where the unit is ordered into the hinterland of the russians advance and order is if anybody gets in trouble to let him down - to avoid further losses. The Paras are hughly outnumbered against the flood of russians and avoiding losses is the point. One of the paratroppers or a troop of them is exposed and heavy fighting starts. The troop of the main character comes to late and it is said the discovered troop is wiped out because the members didn´t want let die one of their own. So they tried to cover him and make a retreat possible. But the russians were too many and overran them.
Further his description of sex and love in times You have nothing to hold on as the next human being what isn´t trying to kill You or wants You to kill one. It is hard topic because there are many occosasions were is no happy end.

What isn´t said also in the english article is the constant hassle with the GDR leadership. That was because he described the fight of Wehrmacht/Luftwaffe Paratroopers against the Red Army. Belittlement was what the east german officials accused him of. Further his display of the chinese socialism wasn´t agreed with because he showed it in very negative/bad light. Reason was the bettering of the relationship between USSR and China. His documentaries "Der Reis und das Blut" ("The Rice and the Blood"), "Midway" and "Der lange Marsch" ("The long March") as his novel "Der Sommer der toten Träume" ("The Summer of the dead Dreams") along with the crime thriller series "Lim Tok" weren´t allowed to publish before the east german Wall has fallen.

Greetings :)
