Calibrating the armament of P-47 Thunderbolt. Look at the guy below. What the hell is he wearing in your eyes?

I would think it has something to do with the MG alignment?
No idea how that would work though.

I tried looking up more info on the device but couldn't find anything other than it's used to align the guns.

This P-47 Thunderbolt #42-76297 belly landed on 'Juno' beach near St-Aubin-Sur-Mer on 10 Jun 44, its pilot 2Lt John A. Weese (born on Jan 26, 1920) having been hit by flak and mortally wounded.
These day, while on patrol with three other planes from his squadron, he got separated in the clouds and radioed that he'd been hit. His grave is at Bethlehem Cemetery in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
