+++In part a re-post from the CMBN forum but updated+++

When my computer died the other month I lost the scenario work I was doing around Joe's Bridge. Meanwhile my Operation Windsor work hit a few map making snags so that's on hold for a while. The good news is they aren't completely gone from my to do list.

This is another engagement I wanted to try and replicate in Combat Mission for a while now do rather than retreading old ground I put this to the front of the list. 'Three patrol Action' in the hamlet Fournel, south east of Foucarvile on the evening of D-Day. I plan to get a scenario with as accurate forces as possible and also a blank QB map.

A few guiding principles-
- Next to no off map support
- Few Airborne forces means placement is key
- (Possible) 'Hide and Seek' Objective. If you know the history of the engagement you know what I'm talking about.

Pics and video of work done so far...

Ambushed 88 AA Gun and halftrack.

Hamlet from the south west

Farmhouse and Pig Trough

From the north east.

Video...

Any help appreciated. Further research from has led me to believe they were up against elements of the 91st Luftlande Division due to the 88 guns only being found in that divisions TO&E and none being assigned to the 709th Division that was also in the area. Information on the US side is good given the engagement is covered by part SLA Marshall's interviews of 101st Airborne forces in Normandy.

I'm currently tweaking forces, wiritng briefings and stuggling to get the AI right but hope to have another video on my channel soon. In the meantime this the level from Brothers in Arms that does a fictional take on the engagements around this hamlet.

Cheers all.

New video up on my channel outlining my thoughts of Unit Selection and Briefing relating to this scenario. Needless to say potential spoilers if you want to play this one day.

Any feedback appreciated.
Cheers.

Nope, I can relocate them further away but the idea is they have just been ambushed and are fleeing the road. Any idea on the distance away they need to be so the gun doesn't 'follow'?

Don't worry I found a way around the problem late last night. Rate the supply for the unit as 'Severe' and it gets no 88mm ammo. So by doing that and leaving the gun crewed but limbered, the player will obviously get the hint to bail at the first chance. The crew with rifles are next to useless without getting within ammo sharing range of other friendly units which still represents the 'get the hell out of there' situation I'm trying to model.

Ah, very creative solution. :)

Ah thanks Bootie.

I have an AI plan for both the Germans and the Americans ready to go, I would also be keen to have a few H2H testers as well if possible.

Things I'm scared of occurring...

- Briefing Errors - see any spelling, grammar errors let me know.
- One side steamrolls the other
- Victory Points Breakdown -> Both sides have the ability to earn the same VPs just concerned about breakdown
- I've tested the AI Plans myself in author mode but concerned they won't give a seasoned veteran a challenge

Scenario forces are the closest I can get to historical forces that took part. The American platoon sizes are exact.

Sweet looking forward to any feedback. US or Germans?

The forces are next to exact historical in number (given source material) so interesting to see if it's in balance.

AI fix implemented and you can get it here:

There's also a tweak in timings on the German side but I don't think it will be a big difference. I won't even tell you what it is if you are in a H2H.

Anyone else who wants to playtest feel free to have a shot, but please post below stating...
- H2H or against AI
- US or German

This will allow me to track who's testing and collate feedback a little better. No CW module required for this scenario.

Cheers in advance.

Cheer's Bootie got the email.

I've been fighting with the stupid txt document import feature for a while. I'll try again. Cheers for the other pick ups in grammar etc.

One of the sentences is left over from a previous version I cut from the US side. Originally the briefing was going to be done from the point Charlie is getting their orders from Cassidy's Battalion CP before moving south. The rationale behind it was to leave the player in the dark as much and Captain Hancock's men were as the engagement started (like thinking Fournel was actually Bouzenville when they approached), but it would of made it far to confusing for the US player going in blind. When I looked over it a second time it just didn't work.

Finally the name of the Lieutenant in the farmhouse was 'Smit' - LT MORTON J. SMIT is his full name. He decided to do a little trophy hunting while his men did recon over the rest of the village which of course is the start of the engagement following the ambush of the 88mm convoy moving through.

Hope your game is going well against mTk.
