Seething a bit: a gripe about stupid book cover designers

Bear in mind, I seem to be an increasingly grumpy old man :cool:...but I went into a large bookshop in Central London today, and browsed the military section, as you do.

There was a book titled something like: US Military in North Africa, 1942-43. Sort of thing I might buy. BUT the "dramatic cover image" was of a late model 76mm HVSS Sherman, possibly M4A2 or A3. I don't think those were produced till 1944. Annoyed me, so forgive my venting here, please.

OK, the cover designer is an idiot, but surely the author must see the cover? It's hard to think that someone who writes about that particular period wouldn't know his Sherman tanks. It's a book only aimed at a small military specialist audience, so seems likely to put off more people than just me, perhaps?

Or correct me if I am wrong.
