If American football players played the game without "body armor" as you call it, someone would most certainly be killed. All of those hits Bootie showed are a thing of the past (damn it! I love that stuff!). Pro football players are so big, fast, and strong these days the referees have to basically protect the ball carriers from imminent harm. Helmet to helmet contact is gone, hits on a "defenseless player" are gone, taking out receivers who cross the middle is gone, etc. These guys hit with the inertia of a mack truck. Frankly, it is sad they have to lessen the level of contact. It's turning into......rugby. <just kidding my rugby loving friends...couldn't resist>
