About halfway through this one, and it is a very good read. Basically, it is the German view of Normandy 1944 and contains a great many first hand accounts, letters, and quotes from Germans who were involved. Many of these we've read or heard about somewhere else, such as Rommel, Pluskat, and Panzermeyer; but there are many additional accounts from unknown, ordinary German Landser. There are two salient, consensus points in all of the anecdotes:

1. Allied Air Power was the overwhelming reason for the German defeat. Its impact simply can not be overestimated; it affected all aspects of German military operations and it was completely demoralizing. It almost makes me think that CMBO and CMAK are flawed because of the way they handle close air support.

2. British artillery, especially when augmented by naval guns, was devastating. Every comparison noted so far in the book agrees that British bombardments were much, much worse than anything experienced on the Russian front.

In general, a very highly recommended book so far.
