Just poking around trying to get around why the M1 is so much larger (I assumed the type gun, armor, ammunition and added electronics) I found this stat: in today’s dollars the Sherman costs between 800,000 and 1 million dollars, the M1A1, 11 million.

And there’s one less guy in the M1.
