Vittorio Veneto and the Italia (ex-Littorio) departed Malta on Sept 14 arriving in Alexandria on the 16.
On Oct 17, 1943 they were transferred to the Great Bitter Lake in the Suez Canal. The two battleships remained there until 1946/47 when they were permitted to return to Italy.

In the Treaty of Peace between Italy and the Allied Powers, which was signed on Feb 10, 1947, Italia was allocated as a war prize to the USA and was scrapped at La Spezia.

The Treaty allocated Vittorio Veneto as a war prize to the UK and she was also scrapped at La Spezia.

Vittorio Veneto had been the most active Italian Battleship of the war, participating in eleven offensive operations.
