If you want to see how active they are try to compare NATO or US casualties this year and lets say 2010-11,in the Web there are many sites with statistics like that.
Also in Pakistan what you are talking about is the so called Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) which is inhabitted mainly by Pashtuns which are not so happy as they ve lost their autonomy due to the fighting in Afghanistan and this is why they are attacking Pakistan forces.
Taliban was a movement of Pashtuns living in Afghanistan and the birthplace of this movement was Kandahar nothing to do with FATA.
Well, since the Dutch forces were pulled back from Afghanistan it is hardly frontpage news here. But the fact that the Taliban isn't the force anymore that it once was, helps of course.
