XCOM 2

The basic game is now on sale at Steam for $14.99.
So, if you've ever been tempted this looks like a pretty good deal.
The game and all the DLC's (4) can be had for $29.65.
It is also available to DL and play for free for the next couple of days if you just wanna try it out.

If you really want your moneys worth, play XCOM 2 without The Chosen turned on first. Then play it again with The Chosen. Almost two different games!

I didn't know you could do that.
Don't understand how that works.

Bottom left of the initial start screen (where mods are listed) you can choose basic XCOM2 or The Chosen. If you've already played The Chosen, it'll be hard going backwards.

I mean the whole game (it seems to me) is about the Chosen.
How can you play without them?

Well, people did very happily for the year between their release dates..... Hence why no good (so much) if you've already played the chosen. ;D

Well, went and did it. Got the basic game and 4 DLC's for about $24.
Passed on The Chosen for now as "A man's gotta know his limitations."
Game is gorgeous, but I still hate having to play "beat-the-clock" all the time. Although, I do understand why.
May have to find a manual or look at some 'Tubes to learn the finer points.
However, most of it is coming back to me pretty quickly.

Oh, my.
I've completed maybe 5 missions now. I'd have completed more, but I've had to use constant scum saving to get through them. Even with that I've lost 5 soldiers because of deaths I didn't want to have to deal with over again.
The problem? Well, me of course.
However, added to my ineptitude we have the following:
- Soldiers are terrible. Can't hit a target from point-blank range.
- When they do damage it requires multiple shots to bring down bad guys. They don't care about life threatening wounds.
- They can't take a hit and suffer grievous injuries when they do because they have NO ARMOR. This results in death or injuries that send them to the hospital for 10-14 days.
- I have (had) no medkit or anything else to keep them going in a fight.
- This, in turn, requires that next mission I add even more rookies to my "team" making sure things do not improve.
- Some enemies have special PSI abilities. I have none of any kind.
- I am frequently outnumbered. Last battle was a 4-10 deficit.

"Well, what did you expect mTk? It's always like that at the start of any game." Yeah, maybe.
However, I could deal with all the poor quality stuff if it wasn't for the outnumbered thingie.
Give me a fair fight to start. Don't make the odds soo bad that it raises my frustration level into the "Alright, I quit!" level.
Things have gotten a teenie bit better. Managed to increase a couple of troopers skills so they aren't all morons. A couple even now have drones and one of those can deliver first aid immediately. The other provides for a short term bump in defense. That's kinda cool.
And I'm only about 16 days away from researching a facility that will help with weapons and hopefully provide some armor. At this point I don't care how good it is (well, I do need it to be better than the useless +1 that I already researched) just get me something!
Despite what I just said it is fun. I just needed this rant is all.
p.s. Just found this. A little light, but provided some detail.

I play on the easy setting in iron man mode. It’s a bit easier early game letting you build up a force but with iron man mode there is no scum saving.
