Mission Briefing 17 August 1982 02:35

It’s been three weeks since the 15th Guards Division set out from Milovice in Czechoslovakia to deploy as a buffer to the threats from the fascist invasion force. Given the extreme level of provocation from the Americans and their minions, a preemptive move was ordered, and you have made significant progress. After a fierce battle at Plossberg and a breakthrough, your regiment was ordered to cross over the valley ridge to turn south and back east to hit the US forces in the rear.
The Generalmajor’s briefing at regimental HQ is short and sweet:
1) Trap and destroy the American units at Plankenhammer.
2) Push through the defenses to hit the rear of the American front line at Flossenberg.
The 295th Regiment is to be split into a holding force, and your command consists of four elements:
1) The regimental reconnaissance battalion.
2) The 4th Battalion Motor Rifle, equipped with BMPs and air defense.
3) The 2nd Battalion Motor Rifle Battalion equipped with BTR80s
4) The Regimental Armoured Reserve of T80 tanks.
OpFor:
The US forces are believed to consist of an infantry company and some divisional anti-tank assets. They are not expected to have enough time to create significant fortifications, as until yesterday, this was a rear area. Their mechanized forces to the east have inflicted casualties on our sister regiment but you are assured that they are fully engaged and will not have the strength to reinforce.

Notes:
Best played as USSR Human vs US AI
This is a bit of a monster mash. There is a ton of kit and some fancy stuff. You don’t get what you want when you need it, but have fun anyway!
This is version four. The first was almost impossible for the Soviets; the US player could walk away from the computer and still win. The second was more balanced for the Soviets but required little decision-making or skill from the US player. This one should be more balanced in terms of forces and objectives. Feedback welcomed!
Background & Map Credit
Credit to Luka From Fallujah and Dr. Fusselpulli for the Mohnfelde map – amazing work. I downloaded it and loved it, started designing a battle, and then realised that the Soviets were entering from the West! What to do? So, I came up with the idea of a Soviet breakthrough that turned South and then East. Hopefully, it is plausible, and I have ideas for other scenarios that could lead up to this for a campaign. This would either be the final scenario or the penultimate, depending on how the player did at Floss. That would require a quick push through a thin defence and catching the retreating American units.
