Battle Brothers -- bloody addictive game

Once you get some contracts under your belt, and get your reputation up, you will be able to afford better gear, especially once you are able to secure Noble contracts. You will also be able to acquire some gear from your fallen enemies. Choose your "perks" wisely. I think once a man hits level 11, you get to choose 2 perks and then that's all you get. Your front line "tanks" definitely need Steel Brow, Brawny, and Battle Forged. I also chose Shield Expert for my tanks, but now that I've switched them all to 2 handed weapons, that's a wasted Perk for me.

My favorite contract now is a Noble one, patrol and collect heads. My guys are strong enough that I will often just head straight to a stronghold and attack it. Fast way to get heads without relying on random encounters.

Well before work I reloaded the last auto save, which basically had me at the start of the battle with the brigands that kicked my ass, so yes, I ran away. Avoided the band although they pursued me almost all the way to my objective, then I saved.

We collected the money and hightailed it away from the direction of the brigand band, which really lowered the morale of the troop. We picked up one or two more guys, making an even dozen in the troop. I took a contract which basically ran us back through brigand territory and sure enough, we got in a battle with 7 better armed and armored brigands. What really hurt us was one of our more experience party members was cut down at the start of the battle, so the bottom fell out on the group morale. We won, I guess, when The surviving 2 enemy ran off. I have 4 guys left, three seriously wounded. Captured a ton of loot but I have no faith we will make it through this bandits infested place at all.

Group wiped out by a larger number of brigands while escorting a caravan for a big contract. Back to the drawing board.

You are playing in hard core mode if you aren't saving often (even though you picked "easy" difficulty).

I let some deaths go in my early game, but I've leveled and geared my men up so much now that any death is unacceptable and requires a reload.

It is a damn hard game. Maybe I stick with 6 hardcore guys and just armor and weapon up.
