M4 Sherman (Medium tank)

Moment to relax on their Russian Lend-Lease Sherman.

As it has a muzzle break I’m assuming it’s a 76mm, so later in the war/programme. Can’t see the back of the turret, but doubt it’s a Firefly as I don’t think they’d be part of land/lease

It's an M4A2, diesel-powered version of the Sherman, not a Jumbo. The Soviets got it because all their tanks were diesel-powered. Plus the front glacis is not thick enough to be a Jumbo, and the gun mantlet isn't thick enough. Also 76 mm Jumbo's were a field expedient version, all were built with 75 mm guns. Only 254 were built.

Sounds about right - also don’t think the Soviets ever got sent any Jumbos via lend lease — didn’t need them, had plenty heavy tanks of their own.

"Under Lend-Lease, 4,102 M4A2 medium tanks were sent to the Soviet Union. Of these, 2,007 were equipped with
the original 75 mm main gun, with 2,095 mounting the more-capable 76 mm tank gun. The total number of Sherman
tanks sent to the U.S.S.R. under Lend-Lease represented 18.6% of all Lend-Lease Shermans....
...The first 76mm-armed M4A2 diesel-fuel Shermans started to arrive in Soviet Union in the late summer of 1944. By 1945,
some Red Army armored units were standardized to depend primarily on them and not on their ubiquitous T-34." - Wiki
