Hello

I'd just like to welcome you to the club and say you have made a good choice in becoming a member here.

If you have time please do post an introduction thread just saying hello... even follow the format I have used in my one. It doesnt have to be in depth but its good to know your approachable. Nothing makes us more uncomfortable than having lurkers sitting in the shadows with their trenchcoats pulled up round their faces. Of course if you are more the quiet type still do say hello and we will then leave you to your own devices. :)

We pride ourselves on our welcoming nature and interactivity so dont be afraid to jump in and start posting.

Thanks for reading.

Thanks for the intro, Bootie. How do you locate players for PBEM Combat Mission?

How about "old" new guy? Started out with the cardboard pieces and all. Did a short stint in the military. Have CMBN, MG, CW and the vehicle pack, but have not upgraded to 3.12 yet as one battle is in progress. Dropbox works great, and have H2HH. Will play any side, offense or defense. Dislike QB's, but would really like to try any kind of multiplayer battle, so if an extra hand is needed, would be happy to fill that slot if someone will show me how it's done. As soon as I figure out how to do it, will try to join one of your tournaments. Thank you, Bootie, for the welcome.

OK, think I got the time zone. Facman, I will call you Sarge - with respect!

Welcome aboard @griffin33!
You may want to re-visit your profile page and add your location so that we know what time zone your in.
It will appear at the bottom of your avatar field...

Looked at the pictures, Sarge - good ones. I have quite a few, yes, but probably not near as moving as the ones posted. You guys on the ground fought the real war. Recently a picture of me was published in a book called the Danang Diary by Yarborough. He wanted a picture of someone riding the ammo bay doors of a Cobra - a rescue after being shot down on the other side of the Ashau. One of our motor pool guys took it as we were coming in - Terry Haladay (I think it's on his site). Actually it was our own fault - stupid tactics - and they had to destroy the ship. I did write a book about my experiences over there - but I hate "I" books, so wrote it in third person. Email me if you want it - never published. Not the same war as the one you fought, I know, but maybe a little different perspective, and much of it in the same AO where you were, I think.

You guys both fougth the same war and my respect goes to you both.
~salute~

Thanks, Dutch. But it was a different time then. It really wasn't about a choice. Maybe for Facman because he was a Marine - they didn't draft them. But I was facing the draft, and had a chance to fly. Who doesn't have dreams about that? So I took it. Got some really fortunate breaks to fly with the outfit I went over with - 4/77th Aerial Rocket Artillery. Nobody even knew what we did when we arrived. And we had to develop our own tactics, so it was challenging. Shooting rockets in a close ground support role, particularly in the mountains and jungle environment was quite a learning experience. OK, I'm rambling. But thanks for the thought. Looking forward to doing battle with you guys.

There were about 10 guys in my Bootcamp Platoon, who were drafted into the Corps, I on the other hand, ran to the sound of the guns (Tet) and enlisted while still in high school, I had to wait 2 months for my graduation before I could report for duty though.

Hey Guys,
My old copies of cm don't work on my new computer, so I'm planning on buying the newer programmes and was wondering which one do you think I should get first

Hi @Karl Smith and welcome to the FGM.

It would be worth posting your question as a new thread (eg "What should I buy?") as it will get lost tacked here to the end of this thread.

Additionally, not to sidetrack you from FGM, but your question (or variants thereof) is always being asked over on the Battlefront forums, some examples:

Many thanks Bootie. Been thinking about joining for some time but eventually got round to it. I have been playing CM for a while and have recently added CMFB to my list. Much improved and enjoying it. My expertise from my previous life is in Mortars/ Artillery. Its good to see that the designers have improved the uncertainty in where the rounds actually fall, as in real situations. I would be more than please to assist with any issues regarding fire control methods for Mortars/ Arty. Best regards for 2019.

Hello all.
Used to do miniatures in the pre-computer age. Been playing PC wargames since Apple II did a Fulda Gap-type WW3 game whose title I can't recall...
Dune 2000 led to Red Alert etc, Close Combat was a high point, tried CM & played quite a bit of CMSF. Most of my time now is knee deep in all the graviteam releases - once I got Achtung Panzer CM died for me. Also have Histwar Les Grognards & that pretty much keeps me busy.

Hey, seems like a great place you guys have here!
Thanks for having me :)
